Possible to drive two stepper motors

Hi folks,

I'm looking at a couple of projects that would be most easily served by dual throttle bodies each with their own stepper-type idle air bypass valve.

Anyone know whether

A) It's possible to wire the two steppers in parallel and drive them both or

B) There's an option for a second ICV ...

No, that other thing is just three vacuum ports fed into a molded plug.

Re: IAC STEPPER POSITION IN FABRICATED MANIFOLD

Is the throttle body the blue part? The stepper always has to bypass the throttle butterfly. This can be done with an integrated stepper, like in a GM Cavalier TB, or it can be done with a remotely mounted IAC and hoses.

I'd recommend going to a you-pull-it junk yard and looking at Cavalier and ...

Re: Making a new intake manfold... injector aiming question

Well, thought I'd share in case someone else is looking for the same answers....

From what I'm finding, it sounds like, counterintuitive though it might be, the rough surface of the intake ports is preferable to a smooth surface. The explanation, if I understand it correctly, is that fuel is going ...

A related question...

Well, I did a bit more work on the manifold today. The valves are far enough back in the heads, with the ports going so far "in" before turning down, that I actually don't see a way to hit the head of the valve with the spray regardless. Maybe a bit of the edge of the spray pattern will hit the ...

Re: Making a new intake manfold... injector aiming question

I just found a surprisingly appropriate study on this topic: http://www.yamaha-motor.co.jp/global/about/craftsmanship/technical_review/publish/no44/pdf/44gr03e.pdf

Sounds like their conclusion is that I should aim the injectors at the intake valves, and also ensure that I'm using synchronized ...

Making a new intake manfold... injector aiming question

Hi folks,

I've got a 1982 Yamaha SECA 750 that I converted to fuel injection with a bunch of junkyard parts and Microsquirt. One thing that bugged me, though, was the fairly lumpy idle I had, regardless of trigger wheel, semi-sequential injection, or whatever.

My setup uses a single, 1997 Ford ...

Re: Non-regulated fuel supply question

Hi Matt,

I don't doubt that there's some sort of regulation, but that regulation would appear to be absolute, rather than relative to MAP.

For my setup, 1ms open time will always deliver the same amount of fuel, regardless of engine load.

For the type of setup we're talking about on the ZX10 ...

Non-regulated fuel supply question

Hi all,

I'm currently running Microsquirt on a motorcycle with a regulated fuel rail (manifold vacuum based pressure reguator and return line). Recently, when talking with my brother in law about the fuel injection on his Kawasaki ZX10, he mentioned that he has only the high-pressure line coming ...

Re: Ignition/advance control during cranking RPMs

2. Yes. Set to trigger rise. You will get spark during cranking based on where your trigger happens.
3. Not really. If Megasquirt is driving an IGBT type ignitor, it will always control dwell as well as advance. It may be possible to separate dwell from advance with an external TFI-type module ...

Re: What coilpacks are you running with EDIS

I'm using junk yard Saturn SC2 (Hitachi) coils directly fired by Microsquirt. I had considered the Subaru coil pack, because it is nice and compact, but shied away from it because of the less common connectors it uses.

Re: autotune vs AMC vs MLV

For the autotune, there are a couple of things to consider:

1. There's about a one second time lag for a WB EGO
2. Autotune's just trying to meet your requested AFR

I don't know what MLV is basing its values on, but it might not agree with the AFR you've requested for a particular bin.

How does ...

Re: Need suggestions for GM DIS set-up

That depends, I think, on how you're driving the coils. I'm using DIS coils from a Saturn SC on mine, but I'm driving them directly from Microsquirt (not using the DIS base). I think you could drive a DIS base from one of these VR pickups as well, but I'm not sure. The main difference, I think ...

The stock ones on my 82 SECA 750 aren't that big.

My "wheel" is about 3 1/8" in diameter.

There's also a success story for an 81 XJ1100 that Stan Hutchinson did where he simply mounted the VR sensor through the housing (http://www.hal-pc ...

Re: Single Injector Bank Wiring Question

If the four injectors in parallel are reading between 3.5 and 5 ohms, then they're high impedance, and you should be able to drive them all off of one injector output as-is.

Kind of makes sense, since if you were running a multi-port V8 you'd need to be able to run the two banks like this.

Cheers ...

Re: Elusive First Start of BBC

OK. So right now you're working with stock ignition (known good) and MS fuel, is that correct?

One thing you could try is setting cranking pulses very low (.1 ms for instance), starting it with starting fluid, and then working on keeping it running from MS. If you can get it started and idling that ...

Re: A few MSII questions.

Torque can be calculated if HP and RPM are known. Vice-versa, HP can be calculated from RPM and torque. All the generator is doing is cross calculating those two to make sure torque is higher at peak torque than at peak HP, and HP is higher at peak HP than at peak torque.

Thanks for the replies.

My thought was that the original carburetors didn't really do any idle air control, but did use a manual choke to enrich the mixture for cold starting.

It looks to me, from digging around in various articles, that idle air control is largely for two things:

1. Compensating for varying load from ...
