Re: a substitute for vb921 driver?

I wouldn't think so. It would probably die very, very quickly. Get a BIP373 from your favorite MS vendor and never worry about ignition drive again. The ignition drive chips are much more than a simple transistor switch - Google "ignition IGBT" for more info on one popular method of ignition ...

Re: High tach signal on startup

Another thing you can easily try is resistance in series with the tach line. I have a couple of old rotary Mazdas whose coil negative was extremely noisy with a couple of ms of high amplitude ringing as evidenced on a scope. I experienced exactly the problems you describe. I placed a linear slope ...

Re: FUEL PUMP FOR E-85

In my experience, sorta related: E10, when kept from exposure to water is OK. In a moist, high humidity environment it grabs every water molecule within a mile and forms very nasty particulates that rapidly clog everything in sight. This last observation is after rebuilding the 4 carbs on my Yamaha ...

Re: coolant temp sensor location

My install did not have a good place to drill and tap the thermo housing, etc. A CLT sensor adapter was placed in the top hose (immediately post-thermostat). This worked very well except for warmup when the thermostat would stay completely closed until the block coolant was 160F or so. Since the ...

Re: MS-II connected to a rocker switch rather than igition key?

It would be acceptable to connect all of your leftover grounds to the same good grounding point. An important point is that the sensors must be grounded at the MS. If you're using the DIY harness I think there's a wire labeled sensor return or similar. It sounds like you've done this already.

Re: Rotary -rpm's reading too high

The tach on my 83 is about 600 rpm optimistic after 5500 or so. I'd be suspecting the tach itself. If the car's running fine you probably don't have a noisy trigger to the MS.

Re: Prolific Serial->USB Adapter

I wonder if the various vendors who repackage/resell the Prolific chipset manufacture the entire device differently. I hate to say this but it seems like your USB/serial adapter just isn't going to work - it's happened before. Can you try someone else's or buy one from DIYAutoTune? It certainly ...

Re: Prolific Serial->USB Adapter

The data packets don't increase in frequency or size when a tach signal is sent. What are you powering the stim with? Which stim is it? Things can get out of shape rapidly with bad power to the stim. Wall warts, small batteries (9v for sure), battery chargers - all can have insufficient or very ...

Wow, if everyone were as considerate and courteous as you we wouldn't need mods. Thank you!
To your question; I have used an adapter based on that chipset for a long time with several different machines and OS's. I've only found it squirrelly once and that was remedied by dropping the buffers to 1 ...

Re: struggling to find external fuel pump

If you think about it, much of the work (read, heat) placed into the fuel by the pump is spent overcoming the regulator spring. The less fuel consumed by the engine means more pump-heated fuel is returned to the tank for another trip around. More fuel consumed by the engine means less warmer fuel ...

Re: struggling to find external fuel pump

If you are running a return style system, fuel heating won't be an issue..
With a ~1 gallon tank situation, I'll have to respectfully and conditionally disagree. The condition being, of course, on how long the dyno sessions are. The fuel flowing through the pump is actually the coolant for the ...

Re: Designing a custom MAF sensor housing.

I'm pretty sure that if you were able to get your intake system (with a fabbed MAF housing) onto a flow bench while measuring MAF output you would be able to characterize your system fairly accurately. Any nonlinear behavior should be consistent and allow you to tune for said behavior.

Re: MS-II on Honda GX-35 Engine

4) Magnetos don't work till the engine spins. The only wire (beside the high tension wire) I've ever seen hanging off a Magneto is a ground wire (as in the only way to kill the ignition in a magneto engine is to ground out the magneto). You'll need to device some sort of tach signal.
I don't know ...

Re: MAP Hose Diameter?

If you use a larger diameter line running 10 ft then reduce it's diameter just before the map could this cause a artificially high map? That's a very good question I've heard several times. Short answer: No. There is nearly zero actual gas flow in the MAP line. The only thing it's transmitting is ...
