Re: Inlet Air Temprature Sensor Challenge

I am not sure what you mean by voltage, I thought the sensor was resistance measured. The part I am using is the DYI autotune GM open IAT, the only number I can find is the 5040 number on the senor it self

Thanks

Voltage is applied to one side of the sensor and comes out the other at a different ...

Re: alternator sizing

65 amp was the standard fitting to my car which had factory EFI. Went up to 75 amp with factory AC fitted.
100 amp may be too much for a V belt drive - depending on the belts wrap etc - and you'd likely need to enlarge the cable size too.

I have a 160 amp alternator in my Datsun, run by a V-belt ...

Re: Running car w/ carb and MS II hooked up?

I would install all of the components that can be installed that won't effect the way the engine runs. Basically mount as much as possible, leaving the current carb and dizzy alone. Then in a weekend that you can set aside, start Friday night after work, and get the rest of the conversion done by ...

Re: Question: 4 cylinder TBI + boost

If you decide to stay TBI, you will need to bypass or ad an additional FPR, in order to raise fuel pressure in a 1:1 ratio with boost. I don't believe the OEM FPR will do this.

Also depending on which TBI you have, you might be able to either swap in a larger injector from another TBI application ...

Re: alternator sizing

Is this at idle? What happens when you rev the engine to 1000 RPM, 1200, 1600...?

What size charge lead is running from the alternator to the battery or junction point (at the starter?)?

What size ground is between the alternator and/or the engine and chassis? Ground carries just as much current ...

Re: High MAP reading at Idle????

I'm trying to figure out how installing the cam "180* out" can have ANY effect on how a pushrod engine, especially a SBC, will run. :?

Do this:

Install the cam at your "o*/in phase", now spin the crank 360*, the cam will now be 180* from where it started, continue to turn the crank another 360 ...

Re: What are my options on this configuration?

To use the full benefits of the GM EFI, there is an easy solution to interfacing the Ford the dizzy with the ECM, and that is to use the GM ICM (Ignition Control Module).

What you would do is remove the Ford TFI module, connect the reluctor trigger (magnetic trigger inside the dizzy) to the ...

Re: GM DIS Relay

The relay is supposed to provide 5V on the Bypass wire (Tan/Black). This switches the ICM from running on base timing, to being adjusted by the ECM.

If you're able to run on base timing, but not while the ECM is controlling timing you have the base settings or timing table wrong.

I would suspect ...

Re: Routing Hard Lines - Trans Tunnel or Frame Rail?

Thanks Mike_Robert. :D

A quick point if I may.........

When installing or replacing feed/return lines make sure the return line is large enough to accommodate the fuel returned to the tank from the regulator. IMHO the return line should be the same size as the feed line when possible.

I learned ...

Re: Two questions: Surge tanks and return lines

PWM stands for Pulse Width Modulation. PWM doesn't change resistance, it changes how much time a circuit in energized.

Re: Two questions: Surge tanks and return lines

The main thing that I didn't see covered in that home made PWM fuel pump controller is how it would adjust fuel pressure relative to manifold pressure.

In OEM systems, using a return or returnless system, the fuel pressure is adjusted relative to manifold pressure to keep the delta pressure the ...

Re: Routing Hard Lines - Trans Tunnel or Frame Rail?

I will usually run the new fuel lines in the same location as the original line(s) were.

In the case of my Datsun, this meant in the trans tunnel.

On my Jimmy, this was along the frame rail.

If you plan to race your car, check with the rules of the sanctioning body that you will be racing in. In ...

Re: GM IAC valve question

When tuning the GM ECMs, it's recommended to have the IAC open by between 30 and 40 steps. This allows the IAC to close more if there seems to be a higher than commanded idle situation. It also helps with getting a smoother idle usually, in that the change in airflow is a smaller difference than ...

Re: Looking at getting MS

I'm not completly up on all of the versions of MS, so bear with me.

The MS3 will control the coils directly, It can fire them sequentially if you wanted, you could also set-up sequential injection if you desired to, you would need the MS3X board to do this.

MS2, I can't recall which board version ...

Think of Converting the Holley "Pro"-jection to MS, like converting a late '80s to early '90s GM truck to MS, basically all the same hardware.

From comparing the Holley hardware to factory service manuals, I'm convinced that the two barrel Holley Pro-Jection is really the OEM TBI that Holley ...
