why is a sports-camshaft bad for idle ?

Hi,

I start "thinking" as a driver of a big 4x4, which needs torque at low revs and needn´t be able to be chased on laps.
If I changed the camshaft for one which promises more power and torque then I will get one, whith a longer duration. So the cam lobe will be longer - and the valve been opened ...

Re: O2 sensor cable extension?

yes, that´s what I ment. The sensor itself is made by Bosch (the ones I get usually have about 1.5ft of cable). But while the LC-1 does not come with an extension and therefore I had to put mine into the engine bay (not questioning whether there were optional means of mounting it remotely, or not ...

Re: O2 sensor cable extension?

Hi,

maybe this controller could be mentioned in this context. I just happened to order one on ebay. There are some reviews on the MS-Forum. So one could draw his/hers own conclusions from that.

It has a 8ft sensor harness/cable. (together with a gauge built in).

Re: O2 sensor cable extension?

Hi,

not sure if it really is of any help, but I have recently read (when ordering a LSU4.2 sond from ebay) that they come in different cable lengths. What we usually get is about 0.5m. I have seen a .pdf (google found it for me) with the LSU 4.2 specification data and in the very end of it they ...

Re: WUE and ASE. Does 1 temperature mean 2 things?

Hi,

1) I asked elsewhere and have learnt that one ASE cycle is finished after 2 crankshaft revolutions. So at 600Rpm with 300cycles that would mean 1minute of enrichment. Isn´t that true ??

2) the biggest number I could dial in would be "999" I guess ? (which looks plenty anough for me)

3) how ...

WUE and ASE. Does 1 temperature mean 2 things?

Hi,

I make progress in tuning the warm-up. Which is much more demanding than hotstart and enigne-running. As I do a lot of short distance driving and many cold starts please excuse me for stirring up something obvious to others. I bother about too much enrichments and dilution of oil and adverse ...

knock sensor detects too much ?

Hi,

I have knocksense on my Rover V8. I´ve gotten used to it detecting knock above 3000Rpm regularly - even though AFR and Advance are very similar to those of other users. So probably that is just noise. While the instructions recommend to turn the tune-resistor 15-20° away from that ...

Re: leaning ? (questin that arise when one´s temporarily bored)

if you know the general principles, the tuning process should be more straightforward.

http://www.offroad-forum.de/images/smiles/ec_55.gif that´s what forces me into asking and asking and ..

So then I was caught by the whole calculation being valid for WOT only. That explains something ...

Re: leaning ? (questin that arise when one´s temporarily bored)

thanks again!
now that´s very concrete and detailed stuff in that link. And challenging to me (math´s never been my strong point).
I do not get to a valid result with the degree of crank-revolution @ given time. Well, I do but it´s frightening:

For example:

-at 14.7AFR flame speed is ...

Re: leaning ? (questin that arise when one´s temporarily bored)

when the normally burning fuel after a spark compresses and heats the unburned fuel, causing the remaining fuel to spontaneously ignite.

Hi Lance, you´ll soon put me right :) But isn´t that what happens each time after a spark plug fired. The ignited fuel burns and expands, same time ...

Re: (me again ..) shifting VE-table values after changing ReqFue

Hi,

just looked for .. and found the option in MT. Unter tools there´s a way to re-set the ReqFuel and with just typing in a new value and clicking ok all is done.

Now that I´ve changed ReqFuel from 18 to 15 -> I´ve same time increased a VE that was formerly 40 to now 48. For today I did ...

(me again ..) shifting VE-table values after changing ReqFue

Hi,

I haven´t bothered about ReqFuel so far, but now I get to a point where I do some fine-tuning to the VE bins. Unfortunately I have a relatively high ReqFuel figure of 18. Had been no problem so far, but now I suffer from the low resolution of the VE values that I get as a consequence of the ...

Re: leaning ? (questin that arise when one´s temporarily bored)

Thanks for the input !

- by putting stress onto the piston rings you mean that the burn time is prolonged with lean mixtures and the cylinder pressure curve starts to raise earlier - even against the compression stroke ? Has anyone made any measurements how that compares to the pressures that ...

Re: leaning ?(question that arises when one´s temporarily bored)

sorry to put it up again ..

the point behind the "?" is not that meaningless as the title my imply.
I remember Toyota having offered a "lean-mix" vehicle in my coutry but I don´t think they were a great impact on the market. I think that´s been some 15-20 years ago. I wonder why that happened ...

Re:

low advance #'s contribute to a faster warmup

I thought that high advance would give the mixture/burnt gases more time to transfer heat to the cylinder wall = coolant. While with low advance the burn is shifted towards the time the exhaust valve opens and heat is emitted to the exhaust to a ...

leaning ? (questin that arise when one´s temporarily bored)

Hi,

now that I´ve lost my fear for lean mixtures I´ve got a satisfactory setting of the VE´s for cruising. In traffic/Town driving I manage to have around 14.1-14.5 when taking off and soon get into 15.5 or even 16.5 for keeping the pace and even small acceleration. The engine seems to be ...

Re: some hints for cranking and shortly after ?

Thanks Lance,

so I will continue with trial and error (with the slight problem that I´m better in "error" than in "trial" :) ).

One more thing - I notice a somewhat harsh combustion noise when the engine goes from cranking into the "afterstart". I haven´t bothered too much about the leftmost ...
