Mazda mx-3, ms2, msd6a noob

Post by 10secsim »

I have a mazda mx-3 1.6 DOHC that i'm trying to get running...i built the ms2 v3 bord and tested it....it's all good...I got it all wired up with an msd and coil hooked up to my distributor....i am using the hall sensor from the distributor as a pick up...i set all the settings acording to the manual... I still havn't checked the timing yet...i will do that this week end.
I have fuel and spark but she wont start, I set my triger ofset to 10 deg.....i also hear a weird electrical noise from my distributor...can anyone shed some light on this...the engine cranks at about 250 rpm and i can see it on the laptop so i asume that my triger is good ...what should the settings be for a hall sensor? why am i hearing this weird electrical noise?

This engine does not use wheel decoding so the settings aren't too complicated. I would use a timing light to check to see if the timing is someplace reasonable while cranking. These engines often seem to use a trigger angle in the 60 degree range, and set the cranking timing to Calculated.

Sorry, no idea what the noise is.

ok so today i got the ignition right on the mark...the initial timing is set at 55
i also did a compression test just to see the condition fo the engine and was 175 all the way across
after i got the igniton set up it sounded like it wanted to start even more but still something not right...still wont start :(
the engine cranks a healthy 300+- rpm when cranking....i also noticed the afr on my laptop was at 11.5+- while cranking and the gauge in the car was at 14.8 afr...i'm running a aem wide band and i configured it and set it up in the system, but that was just when cranking so probrably not reading much anyways
i'm gona try to post my msq file here and hopfully someone can help me with this....thanks for the help in advance

I got it running!!!! :yeah!: All it was, was the spark plug wires were at the wrong spot on the distributor lol  ...
but that's it for me for tonight...for now it idles lean at liek 17 so i turned it off right away...i think my wide band needs to be configured properly...i'll do that tomorrrow....if some can still verify my msq file...i would really apreciat it thanks

Try increasing the IAC frequency.

alight i'm having other problems now but things keep getting bether, i figured i might as well keep it in the same thread instead of make a new one.
-i put the pwm frequency at 240, start value at 100, cranking position 8, seems like 0 is fully open and 100 is closed
-

i went for a drive and every time i would stop and hold the clutch down, it would die instead of going to idle....i think might be because it run's too rich as soon as the thottle closes and floods the engine out...i need to do more reading
but how would i adjust this...thanks for the help

How would you adjust it being too rich? Decrease the VE table at low kPa and low RPM.

How would you open the IAC further? With the Idle PWM Duty Table.
