Toyota 5e fe distributor weirdness.

Post by dimi3 »

Ok so yesterday I got my spark and injectors clacking with MS2 V3.0 PCB 2.86 (original old firmware)… BUT I have a very silly and stupid situation. It’s very simple to explain.

The situation :-

I have everything hooked up, the laptop the ecu everything to the engine.. If I pull out my distributer out of the engine and I turn the dis with my fingers or a driller everything works ok, with all LED start to light and gauges on the laptop move and I have RPM and real spark and I hear the injectors clacking and all is good…
THEN I but my dis in the place I crank the engine and NOTHING… all is dead…. And then I repeat I remove the dis from the engine turn it by hand all works fine… but it back in crank the engine and zero… dead…. LOL..

What I ve already tried :-
1) I ve isolated the ecu and gave it power from anther battery due to maybe voltage drop.
2) I ve isolated the power to the coil and gave it from anther battery due to voltage drop.
3) Made sure that I was not going crazy that by hand it really works, for like 15 times…
4) Made sure that the dis had a good ground (which btw with or with out ground it works).

Can you help me out here pls. I hope you have some better ideas then I have or had.

I know I am something stupid away from starting.

What is the slowest RPM you can see when testing the distributor by hand?

If I go back and forward by hand I managed to get up to 360. By driller I got 1300, u making a rotation constat by hand I got may by 120.

Do you have any theory?

Help me!

I'm trying to find the slowest speed it can turn - the voltage increases with RPM, and it could be it's not spinning fast enough while cranking to get enough voltage. Is this just a 4 tooth wheel and a VR sensor?

Hey Matt I think I am having a similar issue. I have my thread going but I looked here and pulled my dist out and found that it would not read anything below 180 RPM. I thought that it was reading nothing at all because I was trying while cranking. That number seems high for minimum cranking RPM. Any way to make it more sensitive? I posted in my thread a well.

Is there a way to make the pick up signal more sensetive!!

I am sure that I have nothing wrong in the wiring or basic settups, reson being that with the driller I saw everything working under my eyes - fuel fump started engine went in warmup enrichment LEDs start to light up and gauges move on the lap top... but with the distibutor in place nothing... every thing dead.

Come on guys let but our heads together.. this has tobe some thing stupid!!!

Thank you

Just know I was thinking, tonight when I go home I am going to performe a test... I am goning to remove all plugs out and try with out the plugs, this will rev more the engine on cranking. If I get a signal like that then I would know that the speed is the problem!!!

I really need to mak this thing running.

Help me out.

I ll post my results here.

Sounds like you need to adjust your VR trim pots:

Ok I got it running...

All there was, was to trim the trim pots. From the previews relpy you can see a link with the manaul to the VR trim pots which got my engine running.

Thank you folks...
