Wiring Knocksense to MS-II 3.57 SMD JS4 ?

Post by Turbo-VW-ABA-A2 »

Ok, did some searching :RTFM: (found reference to JS4) and of course Boris sent me the wiring diagram. What is the best way to connect the TIM line from knocksense to the MS-II 3.57 SMD for knock retard function? If possible I'd like to use an available wire from the Stepper IAC (using F-IDLE instead for IAC, so all four wires are available), but what is the "safe" way to route this wire (or any other)? Are there jumper settings I need to touch?

Thanks everyone

OK I need to be more straightforward with my question........

When I go to wire into the SMD 3.57 MS-II from knocksense, where do i connect to?

Use DB37 or DB15? Then does the input just connect to JS4 and i'm done?

please help, need to get knocksense in my car. The LED just won't be enough :? to make me let off the gas!

T-VW...,

On a V3 main board, the knock signal goes to JS4 and through the 40-pin socket pin #30 to processor port PAD07 (cpu pin #34) (see: http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/knock.htm)

On a 3.57 main board (http://www.megamanual.com/357/hardware.htm), the same processor is used, and you want the signal to go to the same processor pin. Since the MS-II itself is the same, you want to go to the same 40 pin socket pin #30. As it turns out, this goes to a JS4 jumper hole as well. You can jumper from JS4 to one of the unused DB37 or other connector pins and feed the knock signal through the connector rather than directly to JS4. Which connector and pin you use is up to you.

However, for wiring questions you should really consult with the knocksense maker: http://www.viatrack.ca/, as I couldn't really say whether it needs a pull up or anything else.

Hi Lance,

You've been very helpful. I'm most likely going to use the DB15 connector for convenience sake, choose a pin, then lead that into JS4.

I will check with Boris about the Knock sense, but I don't remember reading about a pull up.

Works Great!

DB15 (choose a pin) lead a jumper to JS4 and good to go.

Now to play with megatune settings.

thanks again
