B&S Lawn Mower Engine Tach Issues

Post by bmpopp »

I'm using a MS-II on a Briggs and Straton single cylinder lawn mower engine. I can't seem to get any tach readings with my setup. I have the lead from the coil connected to the tach input on the relay board. Does anyone know if this is right, or do I need to hook it up anaother way. Any input would be appreciated.

That could work depending on what sort of ignition you have.

A lawnmower might very well have a CDI vs TCI. The very brief but very high voltage pulse might not be enough to trip the opto circuit.

The blade's probably dull and needs sharpening...
