Introducing Shadow Dash MS

Post by LT401Vette »

Image Shadow Dash MS.

It has been in the works for a while, actually some of you may have seen this app working some time ago, but I feel it is now ready for broader use.

Overview:
- Tunerstudio Dashboard Style and flexibility
- Shadow Logger simplicity
- MSL or FRD format data logging
- Tune save & Load with normal msq files
- Support for all MegaSquirt Firmwares
- Slide between 4 Dashboards that are open at all times
- Android Sensor data (GPS, Accelerometer, Magnetic, etc)
- HUD Mode
- Support for Android 2.2 and up.
- Lots more....

For more information:
I made a little video to go over the app:
http://youtu.be/X7JOLBSakIk

or visit the app intro at:
http://tunerstudio.com/index.php/shadowdashmsmenu

Real dashboards for all megasquirt firmwares.

That may look like a TunerStudio Dash, but it is a screenshot from my phone.

This isn't Shadow Logger, or the next version of Shadow Logger, this is a whole new approach on the strategic platform. So this engine has a full read / write engine with intense data verification.

Your seriously that troubled that I didn't give a date as to when VE Analyze is coming?

Just so you don't confuse anyone, a time limited Shadow Dash is free during this beta period, then it will have a free and upgrade version.

Again, great app and thanks for all the hard work!

I noticed you use an Acer Iconia Tab A200? in the videos. Is it expected that any kind of live analyze / tune app you offer will work on that device? I happen to have an A200 and it's always pleasant to use the same hardware an app is developed on. :)

It is actually an A510, so a newer model with the Tegra 3. I do like that tablet.
It works well for development and debugging. My single core phone is really slow if debugging on it.

I'm always trying to make sure everything runs on as broad set of devices as possible, I like to keep it on the phone as a lot of users don't have the tablets, but the tablets are nice :)

With shadow dash the full core of TunerStudio is running on Android now, so the possibilities are endless :)
I just need to keep plugging away at the UI components.

i mean i'm awaiting Ve live so long and it is not released yet, i can't wait to get hands on it, Dash is a cool app and You do alot of good work but tuning rather then just displaying is what i'm focused at

Ahh - OK.

Maybe that's why I'm having disconnect issues - my processor can't keep up with my custom dash ( overwrote DASH0 ) or the original DASH1. I didn't have the trouble with the previous Shadow Logger and the problem is mostly gone when I use the original DASH0. Maybe I can change the display refresh interval to fix - or should I change the runtime data rate.

Loving the app regardless!

I can't picture a dash thar would cause disconnects with that tablet. It is designed to work with 600 MHz single core phones.
so something else must be up.
when does id disconnect?

Intermittantly - sometimes just seconds after it connects - sometimes a few minutes later. Even tried moving the BT adapter ( the one I ordered from EFI Analytics ) onto an RS232 extension cable so it was in close proximity with no luck. I haven't had it disconn using the green dash for some reason. I'll keep dinking with it before I consider it a > not me < thing.

I should get an AppDebug.txt file from you, it might give a bit more clue as to what is causing it.

How long is it taking to reconnect?
Is there any chance the BT Adapter looses power or isn't getting enough current? Although if it is specific to that dash, I doubt it is power related.

It shouldn't be losing power - it was rock solid on Shadow Logger IIRC. Still not convinced it's not something with my tablet, but attached is an excerpt from Yesterday's driving.
Excerpt1.txt
Also, I spotted something about the missing ECU definition and an UNKNOWN project that I had seen with an earlier version of Shadow Dash. I am running an older firmware. Do I need to update it?

Thanks again for all the help! :)

Yes, the UNKOWN happened when the MS wasn't there while it was checking the Q command, then comes on while checking the S command. It was taking the Info string as a signature, then not able to match it to a valid signature, thus created an UNKNOWN project. 0.99.7 should have stopped that.

It might very well be related to your setup, but also may just be an unhandled error that I should be handling. Say something like your dash having a gauge or indicator assigned to an invalid OutputChannel, and the error from that causing it to go offline. That would need to be handled, you certainly wouldn't want to loose connection and stop working completely over something like that.

Still testing but more info: Shadow Logger on the tablet doesn't disconnect, Shadow Gauge does. Restored the original dash 0 and it's also disconnecting. I'm not using the logging features either - just launch the app and let it autoconnect. On the way home from work I will install Shadow Dash and use my phone ( Galaxy S II ) to see if it's the tablet with the issue or if it's my setup overall.

Yeah, I didn't want you to have to spend any time unless I know it's not my tablet. I did wipe the appdebug.txt file before I started this round of testing so it'd be a clean one for you to look at - if I end up needing to pass it along. :)

Good news for ya. Shadow Dash was rock solid on my Galaxy S II so my hardware must be ok - gots ta be the tablet. Gonna wipe Shadow Dash and all folders involved that I can find on the tablet and reinstall to see if that helps. I really haven't installed much on the tablet - pretty basic stuff with the stock bloatware. Will see what I can remove. Beyond that, I'll start looking at snagging a barebones or Cyanogen ROM from XDA Developers.

Uninstalled the app and wiped folder with Astro. Reinstalled and only chose connect BT. This is the resulting log - maybe you have an idea before I start wiping stuff on the tablet.

Thanks!
