Where to send for repairs?

Post by Rockin C Racing »

Who would be recommended to send my MS to for diagnosis and repair? I've sent emails to peter at first fives as suggested in the manual, but I get no response.

I have a MS1 with v2.2 board and the DIY relay board. I have 12v from the battery, 12v from switch source, and solid ground. I'm only getting 1.3 volts out to the fuel pump, and 3.3v to the injectors. When I've unplugged the relay board and plugged in the stim, the stim says everything is fine. I also can't get it to communicate with the laptop. The USB adaptor I have works fine with my LM1 that I have on my drag bike and I have already checked and have the latest USB drivers, so I know the adaptor and com ports on the laptop are working. I seem to have similar issues as to this thread viewtopic.php?f=92&t=43390, but mine has never been wet as it has never made it out of the garage.

So I think I'm to the point of sending it to someone that is experienced with MS and can help out.

Although I am not am MS1 kinda guy, I am guessing that it is the same as my MS2 in that, they both supply ground (not 12 volts) to the fuel pump and injectors! Are the fp relay and injectors supplied with switched 12 volts? How are the fp and injectors wired?

Of course I could be wrong on the MS1, but I don't think so..... Let's see what the experts have to say....

To answer your question...... I would return it to the company you originally bought it from. In the absence of that, there are several, here on the forum, who offer repair services.

Thanks Ken for the response.

Yes the injectors are controlled by grounding. On the relay board there is a 12v supply for the injectors (red line on attached picture). This is where I'm testing and only getting 3.3 volts from the relay board to the injectors. I can't return it to the original company as I purchased this from a friend that abandoned his project he originally bought it for. I believe it was originally purchased from DIYAutoTune.com. In the attached picture, my fuel pump is wired up like this (ground to engine block & power from the relay board). I'm testing and getting 1.3 volts on the green line in the picture.

I'm 90% sure I found the problem. The copper band in the relay board from the switched 12v connection to the main power relay socket appeared to be burnt and making a partial connection. Now the question is, can I solder the copper back together, or should I solder in a new wire on the other side of the board to make the connection.

If the break in the PCB track is obvious, the normal way is to scrape the solder resist off the track either side of the break and solder a length of tinned copper wire across the break. The wire needs to be of at least the same current as the track has to handle. A good source of such wire can be fusewire from your local hardware store - this also says how much current it can handle.
