so its ONLY the opening time and not both combined? that might explain alot... so, with the opening time of 1.4 (instead of .7-1.0) there would be an additional .4-.7 ms of fuel, which, even with a VE of 1, would still give fuel to run the car... that sound about right?
cant find where i found the opening time, must have misplaced the .pdf

of course if you set your req fuel value too high then you will be able to idle at a ve of 1 as well. I think many people set their req_fuel values too high because they want to have more hp then they really have, so the equation spits out too high a number.
Try halving your req_fuel, reset the opening time to the default (1.0), and try tuning it again.

my req_fuel was at most 16 when i was idling at 1 or 0 VE, i brought that down to 13 with no noticeable effect on the motor.
the calculator spits out a req_fuel of about 15ish for a 215hp 181ci motor on 6, 20lb (or 210cc) injectors

yeah, now that i better understand how the opening time works with MS, i dont think i had changed the opening time when i was running the 2.3 code, i know i put in 1.4 when i upgraded to the 2.883b code.
wierd running

ok, changed the opening time and it seemed to help, BUT it was still running rich, and i could only semi-keep it running by holding the threttle open, and even then it would surge. it would rev up some, almost die, rev again etc. i have a datalog and .msq and tables.

did some more work on it today, upped the req_fuel and VE table, but she still will only start and die after a little bit. Still runs very rough. was able to keep her running for a bit around 4000rpms, but started to smell something hot. looked outside the car and the muffler was radiating a ton of heat, and was cherry-red inside. i think that might be the excess fuel burning off from the stuck injectors but *shrug*
also, im wondering if setting Multi-spark on might have killed one of the GM coils i have as it seems like 2 cylinders arn't firing. when i swapped plugs earlier, 4 were fouled, 2 were mostly clean (paired cylinders i believe) ill see if i can get spark off of all plugs (injectors off) and see if one isnt sparking. Can a coil just die suddenly like that? that might explain the rough running and poor starting etc..
too bad i only have a day or two left before going back to school.....

well, swapped the coils and found that the 1-4 coil was cracked. got in and she fired right up with the new coils and ran fairly well. too bad i didnt see that earlier. added some stabil to the tank and ran her for a bit to get the sabilized fuel into the lines and injectors. at least i know she works fine for spring break
