Any way to extend a IAT wire/plug

Hi,

I would like to try and extend the wire to the IAT sensor in order to move the sensor from the rather hot trottle housing to the air filter. (I get 50°c = 122°F for IAT)
I can cut the wire and lenghten it. But that´s second best/elegant method.
But is there any kind of adapter that fits into the plug for the GM-IAT-sensor that let´s me build an extension with another plug to the IAT ? That way I could undo the extension and keep the actual position (which is neatly placed) if there is not much difference.

If you want to temporarily check the different location, then you can make an extension by crimping the right type of terminals onto wires and plugging them into the connector. Use shrink tubing very close to the end of the terminals so they don't touch when plugged into the connector, or electrical tape if this is just a temporary check. This way you don't have to cut the stock wires.

But really, if it is in the stock location, then it should be the best place for sensing IAT. If the IAT is actually 122 degrees going into the engine, then you don't want to put it in a cold location, because this input is used to determine how much fuel to inject. It sounds to me that the IAT sensor might be defective if it is reading that high. I would test this sensor. What temp does it read from a cold start?

oh, sorry. I have to explain. I wanted to keep the engine wiring as neat as possible. Therefore I wanted to avoid a wire extending to the air filter (would have been easy to mount it there). I had a bung welded to the throttle housing right before the throttle disc and hoped that the measurement would not be influenced by heat dissipation of the throttle housing´s aluminium (thought the rush of air would outweigh that). The engine didn´t have an IAT sensor before.
Apparantly I am proved wrong.

The sensor itself is allright. It reflects ambient temperature when the engine is started.

Well, I have just bought a Bosch temperature sensor (NTC M12-L) http://www.bosch-motorsport.com/content ... l/2895.htm
and will install that to the air filter. Looks like it is quite suitable for the job (if not better than the GM sensor. But that´s just a guess).

Been doing installs for a while now. If you can run the GM stuff, they are a LOT BETTER than the Bosch temp sensors. The bosch sensors suprisingly are not built to the tolerances the GM ones are. And I am a diehard Euro cars guy too. I run GM sensors in all my cars and most of my installs.
