Setup help for Methanol and turbo

Is there anyone on here that has set up a turbo VW with Methanol that could point me in the right direction?
This will be for my lower HP engine putting out around 300 - 350 HP from a 1915cc

Thank you.

I'm running a 2276 ACVW with a turbo and Ethanol, (E85). What sort of pointing would you like?

Well a list of what make car to get the parts off of, what size injectors I will need, what fuel rails to use, where to get the bungs to install the injectors in my manifolds what fuel pump. I think I will use a mustang throttle body and I will be using MSD digital 7 BTM for the ignition.

Thanks!

Here's my info for what it's worth:
My sensors and throttle body, (TB), are off of a Dodge Neon. Intake manifold is made from a 1-5/8 dia., 180 deg., exhaust bend from a local speed shop, which is welded to a piece of 2" exhaust pipe. The intake runners are from here: http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=320 . I made my own fuel rails, but they can be purchased there as well as the runners. BTW, the fuel rails are made from aluminum which is not compatible with methanol.
The fuel pump is here: http://www.jegs.com/i/MSD/121/2225/10002/-1?CT=999 , although I used the previous model that allowed removal of the end fitting that I replaced with a -6AN fitting. Not sure it is rated for methanol either however.
I do not use a return line to the tank. Instead I use a brass tee directly below the tank. I can give you more info on this if you want. Your tank will have to be stainless steel or plastic.
The pressure regulator is adjustable and is known as a RRFPR for Rising Rate Fuel Pressure Regulator. This regulator adjusts the fuel pressure, at a 1:1 ratio, relative to the boost level of the engine. A must have with a turbo IMHO. I bought it through Jeg's I think. It's also aluminum so it probably won't stand up to methanol, unless the anodizing protects it from the highly corrosive properties of methanol.
My fuel lines are 3/8 steel, (although 5/16 would work fine), and all under the tank, except for 2 steel braided lines going form the pump to the fuel rails and another returning from the fuel rails back to the regulator. The braided lines are for vibration isolation and for engine removal. There's a slew of -6AN fittings in there too for the regulator, fuel rails, filter, etc.
I've locked the advance curve in the 009 distributor and use a Pertronix module to send a signal to MS. My dizzy is set to 10 deg. initial advance.
I'm running 47 lb/hour injectors, but I don't think they'll flow enough methanol to work for you. The manual will help you calculate your injector size. Once you know the size, you can determine where to get them from. You'll probably have to contact the manufacturer to see if they are methanol compatible.
Have you considered Ethanol instead of Methanol? It's easier and cheaper IMHO.

Thank you for the reply. I guess for injectors I will have to go for some aftermarket ones, methanol requires 2.25 times more fuel than gasoline. I have used methanol in the past on a street car for almost two years with no problems other than changing the oil often. I had aluminum fuel lines, tank and carburetors, I had no corrosion problems whatsoever but it was driven almost everyday.

I do not have any E85 stations in my area and I plan on running the car with no cooling on the street and I know from the past car I had methanol in it will keep the engine cool even on the hottest days. Also it runs so cool you do not need an Intercooler and you can see the manifolds ice up on the outside after it has run a while.

I am going to run a fuel cell on this car since it will get raced at the track often, it has a roll cage NHRA certified to 8.50's since in the future I plan on installing an Autocraft 166 CI engine. Can you run 2 injectors per cylinder? I am pretty sure I will need two on the big engine to flow enough methanol to support over 600 HP.

I think for this engine I will get the CB end castings and fuel rails. I had two turbo engines for a car like this back in the 80's with Holley 4 barrels so I am no stranger to boosted VW's. Fuel injection is all new to me though. I guess all I can do is put it all together and hope it starts. lol

I like the MSD digital 7 because you tune it on the laptop just like the megasquirt and you can even set each cylinder to deferring degrees of timing. It can be used to trigger my NOS at a set rpm, it has the two step I need to launch on boost, I can retard the timing to build max boost off the line then switch back at launch and many other options.

The fuel pump compatibility with methanol does worry me because if a seal leaks there will be a fire. That is not good with 12 + Gallons of it setting over the transaxle!

You can see pictures from the build here, I still have quite a way to go but I need to start collecting the parts for the injection now.

You might be able to use injectors off of a Chevy big block that would flow enough fuel. I'm pretty sure you can find large enough injectors in an aftermarket catalog otherwise.

I think you can stage dual injectors with MS2Extra. Those intake runners won't let you add injectors though. Keep in mind, your fuel flow will increase automatically with the RRFPR. You probably will not need larger, (or more), injectors, as long as the injectors you have will run up to the HP range you have without the boost figured in. As you build boost, you will receive more fuel due to the fuel pressure increase.

Do your homework on injector size and you'll probably be just fine. :RTFM:

That sounds cool! You're just gonna control fuel then right?

Yeah, that would be bad. Some of the more expensive pumps are Methanol compatible, but I don't remember which ones they are.

Sweet looking car!

i would say run 2 gm tbi's 1 tb x 2 cylinders that should flow more than enogh fuel for your setupp, i dunno bout how well they gonna stand against methanol but they are cheap, so u can buy extras
