runs, then dies

Post by Honest Don »

ok guys, here's the rundown

MSII w/v3 board

2.88 firmware

2.8L GM V6 w/ external coil HEI

Turbocharged

The car runs good but after about 15min or so, the engine just dies and wont restart. If I wait about 5 minutes or so, it starts up just fine, but will die again shortly after.

I've checked the datalogs and everything looks good with the exception of a slightly erratic CLT reading.

Any ideas on where to start looking? I did check/bypass the tach filter with zero change in results.

THANKS!

Lance wrote:Don,

It appears the engine dies when the throttle is closed. So the first thing I would suspect is that the throttle stop isn't adjusted properly for your engine and state of tune, and you need to open it more. You might have to close it back down as you tune the idle VEs in, but you have to be able to idle before you can tune the idle! Do you have a fast idle valve of any sort on this engine?

Lance.
Lance,

Could you please have another look. I'm showing 18% throttle when it cuts out on that graph. The problem seems to occur regardless of throttle position

I'm running an IAC, however its currently disabled until I get my other issues worked out.

Thanks again

don, i couldn't get the msq downloaded but i was wondering if you are using the high out put ignition to directly drive your coil if so the dwell might be too long and the transistor or coil one may be overheating just another thought as the newer ig transistor has a thermal cut out and will work again when it cools Zane

Thanks for the help, guys! It turns out that I had a failing HEI module. I wonder if the welder killed it off or it died on its own :? Oh well, I'm up and running again and all is well :D
