Hello,

I have recently started a new job, which means track/fun car has to turn into daily driver This meant re-fitting all the interior etc and re-wiring MS tidily underneath the dash.

After doing so, I have no RPM registering in MegaTune and this means of course, no injectors firing and a non-running engine! All works ok with the stim plugged in.

I have MS2 V3.0, have upgraded today to the latest code. Using EDIS for ignition. I have tried washing the board, double and triple checked my wiring. All seems ok.

I have no scope so am relying on a voltmeter for analysis. The PIP signal from the EDIS unit is putting out 12v even without the engine running?! Is this right? Would it be possible that the EDIS unit has failed?

Any input would be great!!!

With ignition switched on but engine standing still pin 1 of EDIS (PIP) is high.( +12V)
Each rpm-pulse is a 0 volt output from edis.
Try hooking up your voltmeter to 1 and measure PIP.

When you crank the "DC" voltage on pin 1 should be a bit (0,1 to 2V?)lower than the battery
voltage at cranking.

An better way to measure this is to attach the plus lead of the V-meter to + of battery and the
minus lead to the PIP-signal.
When cranking you should get a volt , or at least some >> 0,1 V on the Voltmeter.


Sorry for not being able to be more specific, but reading will be much influenced by the type of
voltmeter you have.

Check power supplies and grounds, I usually manage to disconnect things and then forget

As the MS works on the bench...the last thing you changed ("re-wiring MS tidily") is the likely problem. Equipment failure could be the problem but checking the wiring for good connections, inadvertent grounds, and actually being hooked to the proper terminal should be the first priority.

As I have said time and again, check your wiring at your VR sensor, I have an edis 4 and the rpm didn't register when I wired the blue to blue and grey to grey. You may want to wire Blue to grey and grey to blue. The module and connectors were out of the same car. I know it doesn't make sense, but there are a lot of people with the same problem.

I had disconnected the VR sensor and not re-connected it
Maybe i should have quadruple checked my wiring!

Heribert, thanks for the info on some diagnostics for the EDIS module. I will save it for if/when I have a problem with the module!
