VR Sensors - 2 questions

Hi all, I have a couple questions, one kind of depends on the answer to the other, so here goes.

1. How "resilient" are VR sensors? I ask, because, don't ask me how, but it looks like my VR sensor got hit or something jammed on the face of it, so their is a little chip (and it's kind of scratched_ out of the magnetic part. I don't know if this a new thing or not, but the reason I discovered it was my car is totally having RPM spikes that are making it undrivable, so I checked it out.

2. Is there anywhere you can buy a VR sensor other than searching out the junkyards? I know mine is a Ford, but not sure what model it's from, are they all different?

Thanks, (I guess that's 3 questions)

Hi! they are simply coils with a magnetic element inside, when a ferromagnetic element pases near changes its magnetic field producing a voltage signal.. They are strong, but if you have that spikes and worked fine before, maybe thats it. They are common, but come with different resistances. If you want to put a similar one just measure it. Good luck!

I lucked out so bad today. Went to Pick n Pull not even knowing where to look. Looked on a couple 90's escorts and couldn't find one, walked up to a 2001 ford focus, the timing cover and water pump had been pulled by someone already and voila, there was an exact match to my VR sensor sitting there, it just took 2 bolts and bam! I ran home, installed and it fixed it right up!

Thanks for the help
