TFI timing does not advance (it retards)

Post by aknovaman »

'67 Mustang with '92 Mustang 302 TFI ignition
2.885 code
MS2
Narrow band o2'S
Wideband reads 14.7 at idle and can be adjusted using VE table.

Loaded a base file for TFI as in Mega-manual.
Starts/idles fine.
Timing light shows 17 degrees of advance; same as MS timing wizard.
As engine is rev'd timing gradually retarded, not advanced.
At 2300 RPM engine stumbles and 3000 rpm timing goes to almost ZERO.
MS logger shows 30 degrees advance but timing light shows it's retarded toward nearly zero degrees.
Do I need to update to a more nwer code version?
The code page is totally confusing to me and i'm lost on it:
http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/code.htm
How do I know if I need to load newer code?
Suggestions?

The code should be OK; I think this is a settings issue. Please post your MSQ file and I'll look it over.

Change spark output to Going Low / Normal and Max Spark Duration to 8.0. Please let me know if that fixes it.

Set it back to where the directions said re-checked the firing order.
It's different as it's a cobra motor and same as a 351 engine.
lowered the timing by 7 degrees and adj the trigger wizard.
Starts and runs good.
Need to re-add the timing from idle to 2K rpm and begine loging fuel.
It's a bit of a turn (rich) but definitely accels better with advanced timing.

Real tuning begins next week.
