MS for LS1/4L60E in a 68 Camaro?

Hey all,

First off, thank goodness for the resource that is forums :). This seems like a very active community, which is awesome.

Recently I purchased a 68 Camaro with a lame 307. A few days later, I bought an LS1/4L60E from a forum member over at LS1 Tech. Though the LS1 swap seems fairly straight forward, there are a lot of little parts required. I've been contemplating installing the 4L60E first, and then getting to the LS1 later after I've amassed the remaining parts. However, this requires a standalone trans controller.

From searching on the internet, it appears that MS makes a trans controller now for the 4l60E? If this is true, can it be run as a standalone, without MS engine control (provided the proper sensors are still in place)?

Additionally, is the MS a viable option for total LS1 engine control? A lot of threads I read were quite dated (2007), and seemed to suggest that most were still using the stock PCM for spark, and sticking to the Megasquirt for fuel. I have no "stock" PCM, and ideally, would like to invest in the Megasquirt and use it as the total solution. Can this be done, and do I give anything up in the process (other than using two separate systems for engine and trans)?

Thank you all very much! Feel free to point me to threads that have "been there, done that". I have yet to come across them.

Regards,

Dylan

Dylan,

See this: http://www.megamanual.com/mtabcon.htm#mshift MShift/GPIO can be run as a standalone trans controller.

All the MegaSquirt info is linked from here: http://www.megamanual.com/mtabcon.htm

Lance.

the ms2 extra or ms3 has native support for the gm 24x wheel. as for bolting the 4l60 to the 307 its not gonna happen without an older torque converter

Thank you sir. Looks like I can save a good bit of money over an off-the-shelf standalone if I can man up and build my own using the MS kit :).

Guess I need to do some more reading regarding the LS1 setup, but I take it from your linking the manual that full spark control is doable?

I was wondering about that. GMPP makes an adapter kit to go from an LS1-based 4L60E to a Gen 1 SBC, but it says it's for a 1 piece rear main setup, and I'm pretty sure the 307 is a two piece, as I think 86' and up they went to a 1 piece.
