Re: Considering MS II for TPI Project

I understand your point, but there's really not much of that here that I've ever seen. There's the msruns.com site where the old Success Stories went (not sure why mine got deleted, tho). You're sort of going to have two sides to this -- the MS functionality side (getting the wiring right so that yo...

Re: Problem Using Pin 30 For Electric Fan Control

Your spare port settings for FIDLE look correct -- meaning, looks pretty much the same as my settings that worked when my car was running. Fan should turn on over 45* and off at 35* by your settings. Your testing steps look good. But just for the sake of it, have you tried a different relay? Some re...

Re: Considering MS II for TPI Project

I don't think you need to change the cam. What you have doesn't sound very radical. I'm assuming your 275/280 cam numbers are advertised duration. That should work fine. Please post all cam specs (or cam part number) if you want a more definitive answer. But, chances are your cam doesn't need to be ...

Re: Considering MS II for TPI Project

You don't have to worry about not having enough vacuum. When the engine is off, and also at WOT, there should be no vacuum. At this setting, let's just say we adjust the fuel pressure to 40psi. Think of the fuel pressure of being 40psi greater than ambient conditions. Now, when the engine is in a va...

Re: Lift fuel Pump

In-tank pump is probably easier to do in the end. I'm struggling with the same sort of decision -- I have a brand new stock fuel tank (yet to be installed) that I anticipated using with my mechanical pump to feed a surge tank, but I recently found out a Buick GN gas tank (with in-tank pump) is almos...

Re: Lift fuel Pump

I think you need to pay attention to the kind of pump you are using. Some pumps are good at suction, others are not. High-Pressure EFI pumps do not suck well, for example. But to feed your surge tank, you don't need high-pressure. Some of the electric pumps designed for carb use might work well enou...

Re: TPI Engine harness ...

The OP said he's not scared of wiring and that it's a DIY-budget project. In that case, a homebuilt harness will cost less than half of a $400+ Howell harness. The money saved is enough to buy an LC-1. Whichever route he goes, there's a certain amount of work involved. No one that I know of makes a ...

Re: TPI Engine harness ...

Any of the harnesses mentioned will probably work, and all of them will probably need to have the ECU plug cut off to wire it into MS, whether you use a relay board, or solder directly to the DB37. With that said, you can also easily make your own harness. It's not hard, just a little tedious after ...

Re: Ford SVO injector settings

Start with 4 squirts/alternating. 42lb injectors could have some idling issues on a 331 cu-in engine from a too-short pulsewidth. Megatune should be able to generate a base VE table for you that'll at least get the car to start. For spark, you'll probably have to make your own. Mimic the settings th...

I think VR sensors are usually 2-wire, hall sensors are usually 3 wire (power, ground, signal). Are you sure it's a VR?

I ran that same pump for a while. Any auto parts store will have EFI-rated hose that slips over the barb and then to your hardline. Use the specific EFI-style hose clamps too.

Engine Code:L67 3800 SII (97-03) is a very potent motor. I've made 450whp, 540bhp on 93 octane with turbo setup. Stock bottom ends are very strong, they are very sensitive to detonation, so don't be shy when it comes to high octane (110+) and somewhat rich air fuel ratios (11.0-11.5:1 - .74 to .78 ...

Just a datapoint here... I'm still trying to get my ignition control fully sorted out, but I had my car running with rock-steady timing tonight using Going High (Inverted). My setup is wired just like the MegaManual describes for a 2.2 board (JP1-5 triggering a 2n2222a, which in turn triggers my MSD...

Yes, you can power the fuel pump directly from the relay board. I do, and it works fine.

You might want to look up Doug Flynn on chevytalk.com, in the EFI forum. He's works for Holley and might either have some insight for you, or could possibly help you locate those adapters they used to sell. His screen name over there is "Doug F". He's a pretty helpful guy.

How exactly do you have your ignition setup? I'm running MS-II in fuel-only mode and plan on switching to an 8-pin HEI this winter, but I'd like to keep my MSD 6AL in the system.

Do you have the ignition control wire from MS (pin #36?) hooking to the white MSD wire?

Stock MS was designed for fueling only. Spark and IAC control comes with MS-II. The spark advance is based on RPM and MAP, much the same as a conventional dizzy. At a certain RPM, more advance is dialed in (mechanical advance) and at low-load, even more advance is dialed in (vacuum advance). If you ...

MegaSquirt isn't going to be my first project, the stimulator is. I'll be plenty of experienced when its time to put the actual ECU together  That's good news... The stim is still pretty challenging for someone who hasn't done any PCB soldering... definitely don't start with the db37! -Brian ...
