These tachos are driven by the flyback pulse of the ignition coil (~100-200V).
You could try the EDIS diode trick with four diodes, see the last chapter here .
Or another possibility is a tacho out signal (AFAIK this in only available in the extra code) and modify your tacho (the input circuit) so ...

Can you check the PIP and IDM at the same time? If there's no missing pulse on the PIP, the VR part is fine.

Seems to me that 4.2 and 4.9 are different (at least their controller has a jumper for selecting either 4.2 or 4.9).
