Thanks Matt - apparently flipping the VR wires restored the signal, although I could have sworn that a) I had them right, and b) I had tried swapping them already :oops: MS can now see tach pulses and I have spark. Of course, it doesn't seem to want to start, but at least this is progress.

Nope, no spark that I can see. 
From my reading here, it seems the EDIS modules are considered nearly indestructable...
