Re: voltage regulator- alternator

Thanks, Matt. I checked out the Dodge piece. Not only is it cheap and easily available, so is a wiring harness connector for it.

Re: voltage regulator- alternator

Yup, I didn't think a car that old would have a computer controlled voltage regulator either.

Thanks to Megalog, I know exactly how big the voltage spike was- 25.7. The IC voltage regulator on the board is rated to 26.

Think I can return it for not meeting spec? :>

voltage regulator- alternator

1985 CRX Si, with MSII board

The CRX voltage regulator is internal, and it apparently is an early example of pcm controlled voltage regulators. Now, no pcm, only MS.

Had it tuned and running before a voltage spike burned out U5.

Anyone have a suggestion for a simple external voltage regulator ...

Re: Big Picture: Trigger Offset and Advance

Thanks, Matt! Since you have such a good way of explaining things, I've ordered your book. I expect to know and understand all once I've read it;>

Big Picture: Trigger Offset and Advance

My 1985 CRX is finally starting and running well enough to worry about setting the timing. I'm using a stock but locked distributor for the signal to MS, which is controlling the timing.

I would just like to make sure that I understand the relationship between the trigger wizard, trigger offset ...

Re: direct ignition/relay board/coil wiring

Spun those little pots counterclockwise until we were both dizzy (sorry, bad play on words), and still no spark. Resistance on the TDC sensor wires is within spec.

I have a theory...

The TDC sensor output goes to the stock PCM for fuel timing. Perhaps it sends just a wimpy little signal that's ...

Re: direct ignition/relay board/coil wiring

Thanks for taking the time to brainstorm this with me!

RPM works fine on the Stim, and the VR is grounded at the TPS return. The TPS is functional.

The coil was slightly out of range on resistance, so I tried a different one with the same result.

I guess the next step would be to check the VR ...

Re: direct ignition/relay board/coil wiring

Thanks, Lance.

Wired as instructed. Still no rpm. Checked the jumpers on the bottom of the board, and all the components in step 51 of the assembly guide, and every thing is as it should be.

Any further suggestions?

direct ignition/relay board/coil wiring

V3 Board, 2.889 code

1985 CRX, using direct coil control with locked dizzy. MSD blaster coil.

The answer to this may be obvious (or not), but I wanted to throw the question out there because the last time I went along on my merrily own way I fried a trace on my relay board. :(

Per Megamanual ...
