Powering WBO2 and KnocksenseMS on Relay Board?

Hi all, For convenience and centralizing purposes I would like to power my WBO2 sensor and knocksenseMS on the Relay board unless it is not adviseable. If OK, can I connect their power supply together with the fuel pump power supply on the relay board? What about getting the power from one of the pi...

Re: Where to powe EDIS on the relay board (or not)?

Thanks. In my setup, and for centralizing purposes, I would prefer to get the power for EDIS from the Relay Board (after all it's full name is "Relay and Power Distribution Board") unless this is not adviseable for any reason. If OK I would like to know where best to get switched power on ...

Where to powe EDIS on the relay board (or not)?

Hi all, I read contradictory things about powering EDIS to a switched 12V source: 1 - EDIS ground and power supply should be connected at different places than the ones of Megasquirt; 2 - power supply for EDIS can be connected to the fuel pump relay. My EDIS will be grounded to another spot of the e...

Re: Negative connection for battery in the trunk

Thanks. Yes, it's a steel unitary body. I'm asking because I remember reading in the manual that the relay board negative should be connected to the engine and as close as possible to the battery negative terminal. I assume this requires having the battery grounded not too far from the cable groundi...

Negative connection for battery in the trunk

Hi all, I am planning to relocate the battery back in the trunk. I'm using a relay board with negative connected to the engine. The engine is connected to the chassis down the firewall by a cable. I know negative can give issues. Can I connect the battery negative somewhere in the trunk or should I ...

Re: Wire gauge for X1 X2 and X3 on relay board

Thanks!

Would you ground all the three wires at the same place on the engine, at different places on the engine, or even get one run to the battery negative?

Thanks!

Wire gauge for X1 X2 and X3 on relay board

Hi all, I nearly finished the engine loom. I'm left with soldering wires to X1, X2 and X3 on the relay board, which are respectively 12V Batt, Switched 12V and Engine ground. I think I read somewhere that engine ground should be 12-14 gauge, but I was not able to find any info about the two others. ...

Re: EDIS off by 6° in limp mode

" About half the indents in the railings along the Autobahn are made by 300 SEL 6,3s trying to brake from high speed." First time I hear that! I had a nice 6.3 some time ago and I never felt insecure, though I had a scary experience once in a W112 Coupe when I had to lift the gas pedal in...

Re: EDIS off by 6° in limp mode

Take good car of the engine, I suppose you know that MB won the Bandama Rally in The Ivory Coast with engine like these.! I know! Unfortunately the car (No 52) was rusted beyond repair: my leg went through the footwell panel when I stretched to relax while driving on the highway! When I took it apa...

Re: EDIS off by 6° in limp mode

Indeed those are good news! I had taken great care of positioning the VR sensor when I made the bracket so I could not understand why I was off by so much. Though I hope the relation you mention is not a linear one because my cranking speed being a good 300 rpm (healthy battery) I should be around 7...

EDIS off by 6° in limp mode

Hi all, Today I finished fitting the EDIS ignition set-up on my M117 5.0L V8 Mercedes engine. I cranked it with PIP/SAW unplugged to see if default advance was well set on 10°. After I pushed whatever adjustment I have on the VR bracket I'm still showing only 4° advance, so I'm off by 6°. I would...

Re: O2 sensor cable extension?

Thanks! I guess I will drill a hole in the trans tunnel so that I can pass the sensor through there and have the rest of the set-up inside the car. There is not much room in the tunel and below it would be too close to the downpipes.

O2 sensor cable extension?

Hi, Hi all, I got an Innovate LC-1 Digital Wideband Controller with Sensor - 3769 from DIYAutoTune and I've been trying to fit it on my car. Unfortunately there is no satisfactory location to fit the Sensor Controller built in the cable . The best solution would be to lengthen the O2 sensor cable or...

Is using the same vacuum port for MAP sensor + FPR OK?

Hi all, I have one threaded hole in my plenum in which I can bolt in a fitting and then connect a vacuum line. I need vacuum for MAP and fuel pressure regulator. Is it ok to plug in a T in the MAP sensor vacuum line to connect the FPR or will the two connected to the same source alter the vacuum val...

Re: Throttle Bodies

I've been reading a number of discussions about TB size and what 78Spit1500Fed sais is true: in the end there is only so much the engine can gulp. There are also TB size calculators but each engine is different. In the end, the best way to know is to measuremvacuum at full throttle around the red li...

Knock sensor location

Hi, I am considering fitting a knock sensor on my 5 liters Mercedes V8 engine that was not originally equipped with, but I don’t know where to fit it. I read the best location was in the valley between the two cylinder banks but there is no place to fix any senor there and it is absolutely not acc...

Re: EDIS module fixed on the engine?

Ah, I understand now. In fact the pigtails are more than 10 cm each so I guess this is enough to avoid this problem. I need to look closer at it and I will go for the best option. I'm not sure I want to mess with older connectors though. BTW, by some comments I read from you on other threads, you se...

Re: EDIS module fixed on the engine?

Thanks Heribert, that's good news!

I didn't know about the increased risk of failure due to joints close to the connector. Why is that?

EDIS module fixed on the engine?

Hi all, I read everywhere that the EDIS module is very strong and reliable. I therefore confidently made a bracket to hold both coils and the module where the dizzy was. The bracket is held in place by three rubber mounts to absorb the vibrations and is located right behind the fan propeller so that...
