I would imagine it would be possible to run it as normal off the crank 36-1 sensor. Instead of firing 3 pairs of plugs, you could just fire 3 single plugs. Use COPs unless you have a 3-coil coilpack, and attach the EDIS 6 to cylinders 1, 2 and 3 just as you would the three pairs of cylinders on a 6 ...
