Is there a drawback of just obtaining just the EEC-IV connector and place each wire onto each appropiate pin?

Back before I designed the adapter board, I removed a connector from an EEC-IV and wired it up directly. I had to pot the connector with epoxy to prevent the pins from falling out and/or ...
