Re: SBC with 7-pin HEI hates advance... Pops and bucks

Matt, I've attached my current tune. I'm still getting some occasional pinging even though the timing is very retarded. I;m sure there's something I've done wrong... if anyone sees anything in the tune, let me know.

Re: SBC with 7-pin HEI hates advance... Pops and bucks

Yes, I'll definitely post my tune. My new theory is that I didn't understand how to set the trigger wizard because if I tweak that value I can get the car to run properly. I thought that I set the trigger wizard to what ever the actual timing what with the b relay disconnected. In my case it's 0 ...

Re: SBC with 7-pin HEI hates advance... Pops and bucks

damn... I thought I had it figured out, there's no mechanical advance on this distributor. So where do I get 10 degrees advance from when every cell is populated with the fixed value (5 degrees for test purposes) with no vacuum or mechanical advance???

Re: SBC with 7-pin HEI hates advance... Pops and bucks

The saga continues... I think I'm getting centrifugal advance and didn't realize it. With the B pin disconnected AND every cell on my spark advance table populated with 5 degrees BTDC, if I put a timing light on the balancer and blip the throttle with my hand, I go from base timing (TDC) at idle to ...

Re: SBC with 7-pin HEI hates advance... Pops and bucks

Update... d'oh! have I done wrong? LOL. Clearly, something is off because here are my findings: at idle, with 2 degrees BTDC on the spark advance table, the actual timing on the crank is 28 degrees BTDC!!!!! At 5 degrees BTDC on the spark advance table, the actual the timing on the crank is 38 ...

Re: SBC with 7-pin HEI hates advance... Pops and bucks

Just a thought, but have you actually checked that the timing marks are correct with the crank, IE use a piston stop to check them?

At this point ill consider double checking anything. When you say the timing marks are correct with the crank, do you mean the timing marking on the tab that's ...

Re: SBC with 7-pin HEI hates advance... Pops and bucks

Next steps, here's what I'm thinking ill do next: I've added a timing tape to the balencer that shows me the timing marks all the way through 45 degrees BTDC on the balencer. I'm going to bring the motor to normal operating temp and load a spark advance table where every cell value is the same, say ...

Re: SBC with 7-pin HEI hates advance... Pops and bucks

I'm stumped, the timing light shows me right at TDC and the balencer looks good... the Spark Advance Table is engine advance not distributor advance right? So 30 degrees on the Spark Advance Table refers to when the engine is at 30 degrees advance (so 15 degrees distributor, right)? Just for ...

I'll checking the timing again with the light and also the condition of the balencer. I'll report back. Thanks Matt

SBC with 7-pin HEI hates advance... Pops and bucks

It starts and it runs so much progress has been made. But now I'm trying to get the ignition dialed in and I'm far from an expert. Within the last few weeks I converted from a centrifugal/vacuum distributor to a 7-pin HEI. I have set the base timing (with the B pin of the relay disconnected) to 0 ...

Re: Odd AFR lean spike at idle... tune and log attached

After opening your MSQ i got this message:

Are You sure that this one is set correctly :?:

Odd AFR lean spike at idle... tune and log attached

I'm getting close with my tune but there are still a few issues. My RPM at idle still hops around a little and I'm getting a odd super-lean spike in my AFR with no corresponding change in my MAP. Take a look at the log around 78 seconds... not sure whats causing it. Also, this is my first time ...

Re: How much should AFR fluctuate at idle?

Ok, I'll have to see if my MAP moves around at idle as much as my O2 readings do. Maybe it's time for alpha-n blending?

Never mind, just found the answer... A WUE of 100% is no enrichment.

Should WUE go to 0% or 100% when engine warmed up?

I've been reading up on the warm wizard because I'm pretty sure I need to further tweak my tune. I got my car running well but then I noticed the my WUE is 'on' all the time. So, now I'm trying to re-tune my tables with the WUE to 0 when the engine is warmed up. So here's my question, should I be ...

How much should AFR fluctuate at idle?

This is a question for you guys who have sorted out your engines and reach a point that I'm trying to achieve. How much does your AFR fluctuate at idle. Currently, my engine will move between 14.0 and 15.8 at idle, back and forth just kind of moving all over the place. To me, that seems like too ...

Problem Solved: LC-1 doesn't match the TS display... at all!

Ok, as suspected... It was my lack of reading through all of the documentation. Yes, one of the LC-1 analog outputs is 0-1v which explains why TS was seeing different readings. Easy fix, connected the WB02 to my laptop and changed the output so that both output a 0-5 volt reading. Now, both the ...

Re: Innovative LC-1 doesn't match the TS display... at all!

Ok, that makes sense. Upon further reading, it looks likened the 2 analog outputs is configured as a narrow band. That must be the one hat I have wired to my MSII. I'll have to figure out how to configure both outputs to function between 0 and 5 volts. Side note, I do have both the grounds as well ...

Re: Innovative LC-1 doesn't match the TS display... at all!

So, I should be seeing between 0 and 5 volts from the analog output wire of the LC-1, correct? Any chance that I needed to hook the LC-1 up to a laptop and 'program' the analog output so that the signal is the correct voltage for TS to interpret?

Re: Innovative LC-1 doesn't match the TS display... at all!

Yeah, I'm a little stumped because I re-calibrated the O2 sensor and redid the 'write to controller' but I'm still getting wildly different readings between the actually innovative gauge and the TS display. TS sees the mixture as being 40% richer than the the Innovative display which explains why ...
