Re: Miata CAS

I have a MS-II V3 main board. After giving it much thought I mentioned the crank pully keyway as being weak but the crank turns the timing belt which turns the cams so I'm right back to square one. I do have an EDIS wheel that I was going to install on an LT-1 engine but the street rod has been sold ...

Miata CAS

Ready to install the Megasquirt I built several years ago in my 1990 Mazda Miata 1.6. Noticed on a Miata forum that the CAS can fail and replacement can cost $200-$400. I got hold of a failed CAS, took it apart and, I think, could install a Pertronix unit in the CAS housing. I found a Pertronix unit ...

Opti spark use

Trying to figure which way to go and need input. I have a street rod with an LT1/4L60E. I have built an MsII with a relay box. Opti Spark will only live so long in factory trim and I want to replace (some/all) of it with the MS II unit. Researhing the opti spark and some say it is the high voltage ...

Relay cable

Searched but can't seem to find the answer. When I made up the DB 37 cable originally I did not intend to use a relay board. Now I am and just can't get a handle on pin 24. Originally I soldered the core of the gray wire to pin 24 and the outter shield to pin 2. Now it says not to ground the outter ...

Re: Window 7 starter

Never mind! Found the problem. I was trying to use hyper terminal in conjunction with the dowloader on the serial port. I had read about the USB so many times I could not see that there was no step to start Hyper Term. That's wat happens when you get into a mind lock!

Re: Window 7 starter

Taking fustration to the next level! Got a DYI USB/DB9 cable from a friend, didn't work because it claims it can't find COM1. Then I had a bright idea, Plugged the cable into the serial port and it echos on the Hyper Term. program. Great! Now to download the firmware. Says it can't find COM1. Have ...

Re: Window 7 starter

Only two COM ports are displayed, 1 & 3. When trying to use 3 it says it's being used by something else. I have tried COM1 with different speeds but no joy. Got a local guy who has a proven cable so will try that tomorrow.

Re: Window 7 starter

OK Ken, won't cut the cable. I have followed your instructions (my desktop is XP so it's a bit different), and it says USB/serial driver not installed. I've tried to load anyway and nothing happens and it "times out". Going back to trying to short pins 2 & 3 and getting a screen echo, it does not ...

Re: Window 7 starter

Thanks Ted,
Can't get the cable to echo to the screen. I got the DB9/USB cable at Radio Shack and it has a two inch square blob in the middle of the cable and I'm beginning to think it is a null modem type. I've tried to short pins 2 & 3 and type but no joy. I've also looked for 5 volt power but it ...

Re: Window 7 starter

According to mini term it's com1. When I go to megatune and open communications, select mini term I can see no way to tell it to load the fermware. Anything I type echos to the screen but if I go back to the downloaded program I get a "com1 not found". Still think I'm doing something stupid. What ...

Re: Window 7 starter

OK, now I got the two to talk to one another but when I tried to load Monitor v2.891.abs.s19 as instructed on step 40 I get "com1 not found". I see no way to use the mini term to load codes. Of course the downloader program doesn't work. What am I missing/doing wrong?

Re: Window 7 starter

Slightly off topic comment. I have found that the Megasquirt community to be the most helpful group of any board I have been on. The people behind the Megasquirt idea have fostered support, knowldege and a positive attitue to all. Thank you.

Re: Window 7 starter

Ken, You nailed it...I'm close to 70 and just about everything in the 21st leaves me in the dark!!! Nice to know that what I have will work. When I get the notebook to communicate with the PCB it will be added to a short list of things I can operate. So far the toaster is the only thing on the list.

Window 7 starter

Got to the assembly point where I needed a laptop. Gave up trying to get an old one and got a notebook with Windows 7 starter in it. No Hyper Terminal installed so I downloaded it but it will not install. Project stalled for now because of this. Actually have spent more on support than on the MS2 ...
