I'd Like to test a way of determining opening time

G'day All. Firstly, I'd like to say it's been just over a year now since I first fired up my MS'ed 1961 Holden, and it's been an absolute hoot :D . Lots of tuning, learning, a bit of dyno time where I even converted the dyno bloke who'd never seen a MS system. After about 3000 kilometers, I have a r...

Re: intermittent misfire at full acceleration

This problem is familiar to me as well. I also have a VR/Dissy?coil setup. Had intermittent missing at the mid 2k revs under hard accel, as well as at cruise sometimes. My datalog was showing the RPM diving to Zero from 2500 RPM for an instant, then coming back. I think I may have eliminted the prob...

Re: lambda signal delay

While trying to determine lambda delay, I went through a decent data log and noted all the AE points and checked them against the dips in the O2 feedback. After about a dozen or so readings, I determined a delay of about 17 cycles. This does vary a bit with engine speed and air density, but it's a g...

Re: Noisy EGO solved!

Hi Trakkies. The reason for using the pump/ ignition feed was so the unit was powered only on a running motor, and would not sit with the heater active when the ignition is on with no running. (my car does not have an accessory position on the ignition switch- useful when stationary and listening to...

Noisy EGO solved!

Thought this one was worth a special mention. Ever since I switched to the wideband feedback, a noisy signal was ever present. If you see my "LC1 gone cazy" and "Is this much AFR noise normal" posts. As I've posted, some improvement was achieved by powering the LC1 from a dedicat...

Re: Direct coil vs. Edis unit

Thanks Trakkies. Once again I started with a simple plan, and now the power of suggestion has had me read up on EDIS. :RTFM: So now youve whet my curiosity I have read up on the concept of EDIS and I'm well impressed! Although the distributor setup I've got produces a rock-steady timing mark through...

Direct coil vs. Edis unit

Hi all. I'm currently in the fine tuning stages on my Holden. Right now, I'm running with a VR pickup in the distributor and driving the coil direct. This system works well, but I'd like to know if it's worth going from direct coil driving to driving the 4-Pin Bosch HEI transistor unit with the exis...

Re: Runs well, but is this much AFR "noise" normal?

Hi Matt I'm using the LC1. Previously, it was supplied by a noisy circuit (pumps and ignotion coil). This made it flip out altogether. After re-calibrating and connecting to a dedicated circuit, I've had much improvement. I'm not noticing misfires, but in the log, I see the rougher parts of the feed...

Runs well, but is this much AFR "noise" normal?

Like the title, the car runs pretty well considering I have only been tuning on the roads using VEAL, also trying to finesse the advance table to get the best feel from th motor, especially under power. By running well, I mean smooth and with a reasonable amount of power. Background: 186 in2 Holden ...

Re: Transfer TS to another laptop.

Went to several computer stores. The staff I got gave me the standard "this is all we have" line. I decided to re-install TS on my older laptop with com port. Went for a 45 minute drive running veal and not a single drop out. :yeah!: Went for another decent drive and took a data log. Regis...

Re: LC1 Gone crazy

Just an update. Looks like the noisy circuit was on the money. Since connecting to a cleaner supply feed, the AFR gauge has worked perfectly without flipping out. :D Even went for a trip to Philip island on the week-end, a 300 km round trip and it was a delight to watch the gauge working as expected...

Re: Transfer TS to another laptop.

Thanks everyone. The ideal for me would be to get the proper adaptor. Trouble is, the only places I know to get one is in the US. The price is good, but postage is more than the unit price. And the 6-8 week wait (USPS) doesn't appeal much. If I can buy one here in Australia, then that would be ideal...

Transfer TS to another laptop.

Reason being, I've been using my "good" laptop (which is bereft of a serial port) for some time now, and decided the dropouts while running VEAL are just too annoying. My options are, try to find a reliable adaptor here in Oz, ( the one I've got is clearly susceptible to noise), or transfe...

Re: LC1 Gone crazy

Funny you should ask Matt I went away and had a good think about it. When I installed the unit, I read that 1-don't wire so as to get the unit heated up before starting, as condensation may be blown onto the tip, causing damage. 1-don't run the motor with an un- powered unit, as exhaust gases may ca...

Re: LC1 Gone crazy

Hi Trakkies I agree, but I'm fairly confident with my wiring. All connections are soldered, and all the earth connections for the ECU and the LC1 are made by way of all ground wires soldered to a crimp lug and bolted to the engine block. All the other signals to the ECU have a signal to noise ratio ...

LC1 Gone crazy

Sorry, but that's the best description can give. Apologies to all crazy people, no offence intended :) Anyhow, it starts like this; I've been using the LC1 unit with the MSII along with the gauge (G5 analogue). Working well for a few weeks. Driving the car occasionally and running the VEAL to get th...

Re: poor idle and high revs

Hi Sammy Looks like your'e making progress, which can't be a bad thing. :) Apart from the battery voltage sitting low- second log shows it sitting stubbornly a around 10 volts- how much faith do you have in your WB sensor? It looks (according to the log) like it runs reasonably, but of course this i...

Re: Auto Tuning with narrow band

Yes, although the "calibrate AFR" function didnt give me the same satisfying reply I get from making other changes, so I took it on faith that it took. I've decided not to get too hung up on lean spikes or wobbly readings. The motor runs pretty well, and I reckon with more fine tuning and ...

Gday Sammy I'm relatively new to this caper myself, so you more experienced Mser's forgive me if Im off the mark. Im not particularly familiar with the hardware on anything as exotic as the Alfa, (I'm more into the domestic stuff) However, looking at your log a couple of things: Your MAP looks reall...

Re: Auto Tuning with narrow band

Just did a few laps around the block. drive logged and checked at the end. So far I have found much improvement when increasing the relevant cells in the VE table where the feedback starts to show lean. Each successive drive I have noticed better power, better up hills, and no more misses! It seemed...
