Its entirely possible, I've seen this a few times on EDIS equipped kit-cars here in the UK, can give you quite a shock... There generally isn't enough fuel hanging around to make a bang though, so it might be worth checking you don't have a leaky injector that isn't seating correctly when powered off.

A little inlet manifold air leak can sometimes also cause some pretty impressive pops when you are on transitional throttle, so maybe worth a quick check there too
