Re: Idle timing on Chrysler 440?

That sounds more like a dial indicator. I believe some "odd" engines were timed by bringing the piston up to a pre-determined height. The problem is, for this application, trying to get both CW and CCW (or before and after TDC) readings the same is difficult. That is why a stop is used.

Re: Idle timing on Chrysler 440?

On a 440 you can use either no1 or no 6. Google "piston stop." You can buy or make them

Re: Idle timing on Chrysler 440?

Many engines "like" much more timing than the fender smog sticker said. My 67 318, was 360, with "about the same" as a 340 cam likes around 15-17 initial

What kind of ignition? MSD multispark can play heck with some timing lights.

Easy to find out if your timing marks are accurate, ----and they ...

Don't know how "young" you are, but I have what amounts to pretty severe arthritis. That and some other health problems has REALLY slowed me down. heck when I was "only" 48 I was still tower climbing part of the time. I always had physically demanding jobs, and used to be in shape.

Re: Need a simple summary

I'm referring to the PNP ecu, hit the link I posted. Looking to make the ECU's swappable. The connectors on the Holley/ Megasquirt ECU

The [DIYPNPD56-K] appears (for GM) appears to have the same connector as the Holley Commander 950

Re: Need a simple summary

OK, "I THINK" (have not for sure verified, that the GM connector is the same CONNECTOR as my Holley Commander 950. I might have to repin one or the other to maintain interchangeability (for a swappable spare)

Can anyone confirm that the below is the same connector (not necessarily same as Holley ...

Re: O2 Sensor placement + cheap oscilloscope

Hello,
On another point has anyone got or heard of these "JYE Tech oscilloscope DSO 094"? I seem like an OK scope to start with and should be fine for all the testing and checking on the MegaSquirt.

Need a simple summary

If it exists I've missed it. I need a SIMPLE chart form comparison of all the various versions of boards, daughter boards, chips, etc. and / or maybe a recommendation of "what I need."

I can assemble, I have considerable electronics experience

Here's what I currently have: GM HEI module triggered ...

Not a good idea, in my opinion, and wasn't good when Mopar did it, either.

Re: SBC with 7-pin HEI hates advance... Pops and bucks

I can't help you with the specifics of Megasquirt, but some general comments

1--The very first thing I'd do before ANYTHING else is to check the timing marks with a piston stop, PERIOD

2--I'm not sure what you have for a dist/ module. Is it possible the trigger pickup wires are reversed?

3--Are ...

Re: General MS manual questions

How much would you expect to pay for a pro printed manual? $25? Wouldn't cost that to print one out - especially on a laser printer.

I don't believe you understand the problem. The "manual" seems to exist scattered around the web in html pages, with many many redirect links. There is no "one ...

General MS manual questions

Hi folks.

I have a Dodge Dart, now mild 318 (headers, cam, auto, 3.89 gear), currently running aged Holley Commander 950. Have been looking at MS and thinking, reading more about these systems. Currently system is TBI, but I have parts for MPI and hope to convert to that. Have not decided whether ...

Re: SBC with 7-pin HEI hates advance... Pops and bucks

Exactly what I meant, a common problem, caused not only by mixing parts over the years, but the balancer outer ring itself can slip. You check this with a "piston stop" which you can make or buy.

Remove the no1 plug, make sure the piston is "down a ways," remove the battery ground, and insert the ...

Re: SBC with 7-pin HEI hates advance... Pops and bucks

Just a thought, but have you actually checked that the timing marks are correct with the crank, IE use a piston stop to check them?
