Re: Relay board copper trace reliability

Thanks Dave. On my first megasquirt project I did just that, with wiring up a bunch of relays and fuse connectors. It looked like a rats nest, but didn't fail. It was also nearly free! On my current driver, I figured the relay board would be "better" and make fault isolation faster because ...

Relay board copper trace reliability

Over the last 100,000 miles, spread over 5 years, I have found the relay board to be the least reliable part of my car. Never had a relay fail. Never had a fuse blow. I have 20 amp main 7.5 for the injectors and 15 for the fuel pump. It's just the higher amperage copper traces that go. First the ...

Re: MSI no injector output

I'm gonna put this on the shelf for a while. I'll take another look when I get some extra time and set up a PC based ocilliscope. thanksfor your help!

Re: MSI no injector output

Have it slow as it will go, 200 rpm, cant read it. Is it like the injector output, an intermittant grounding? so I put my volt meter to a sorce of 12v on one lead and the input on the other? One odd thing I came across is that when I check the U7 output that goes to Injector 2 it causes the led on ...

Re: MSI no injector output

do you mean U7 rather than U4?
Looking at a schematic here:
http://www.bgsoflex.com/v22/megasquirt_ShemV2.2.pdf
U4 seems to be part of the input circuitry. U7 has power across pins 3 and 6. My digital volmeter is not reading inputs to U7, but it dosn't read power arcoss the blinking LED either.

Re: MSI no injector output

Thanks for the speedy reply. I am confused - you state "the stim LEDs show the output stages are actually working."
By this you must mean they would if they were blinking? "Failure of both output devices at the same time is slightly unlikely" By "both" do you mean the stim as one of the 2 output ...

MSI no injector output

This MS-I worked fine for many years, then it started flooding the engine. When ever it was powered up it woud ground the fuel injectors and cause the engine to flood. the U7 chip looked a little burnt and has something to do with injector output, so I replaced it. That fixed the flooding, however ...

Re: EDIS RPM dropout after prolonged high rpm

Took a long trip on the highway. 200 miles, no rpm drop outs. Seems odd that bad plugwires could cause the edis module to stop sending rpm signal to MS, but that's all I changed.

Re: EDIS RPM dropout after prolonged high rpm

I've shortened the spark plug wires. some by as much as 50%. I've removed the burnt bits. You would think reducing the lenght that much would cut the resistance in half. it just took 1k off a 6k wire. min resistance is 8k for wire and plug together. It seems replacement sparkplugs don't list the ...

Re: EDIS RPM dropout after prolonged high rpm

It seems strange that the lack of resistance of the leads could cause the rpm signal that the MS2 is getting to drop out. surely the gap that the spark has to jump has lots of resistance. could changing the gap make a difference? I don't even see how the EDIS module would know if the there is a ...

Re: EDIS RPM dropout after prolonged high rpm

Thanks, Dave

I checked the longest lead first and found no connectivity. I pulled the lead out of the spark plug boot and found the end was charred off. I had to trim an inch or so off to get a good reading which was 6k. The shortest lead was 5.2k.
I measured one of the plugs ,it was 3.8k I assume ...

EDIS RPM dropout after prolonged high rpm

I've recently switched my MS2 from running fuel only and triggering off a coil to EDIS. It runs great on the edis but if keep my rpm up say 3500-4000 or more for several minutes at a time, my rpm signal from the EDIS drops out for about 1-4 seconds and then comes back. It never happens at idle. I ...

Re: EDIS4 missing tooth 90 degrees behind

Thanks for the reply. Upon closer inspection, looks like I am gonna reposition the wheel anyway as it's not exactly 90 degrees behind.
Thanks again!

EDIS4 missing tooth 90 degrees behind

I have my EDIS missing tooth 90 degrees behind rather than ahead of the sensor. Its a 1342 fireing order, could I switch plug wires for cylinders 1 and 2 with wires for 3 and 4, being that they are 180 degrees off, like my toothed wheel? The wheel is heat shrunk on so I'd rather not remove it , but ...

Re: Was running, now flooding

Hooked it up to my new stim - No fuel injector pulses out to the stim. Still see the fuel led on the MS1 blinking. Should I start a new thread on a different forum as this is not a "tuning fuel and air" issue?

I wanted to post a older datalog of it running but the one I have handy is too big. Can try sending it to your DIY email.

Re: Was running, now flooding

I've gone back to the manual instructions on how to set cranking pulse width and warm-up enrichment. still no luck. Tried ungrounding the rpm wire shield to no avail. The way my ignition is set up I have to turn the key off each time I crank the engine, I tried using a wire to my starter so I could ...

Re: Was running, now flooding

So I have that new U7 installed, Thanks for the speedy shipment ,DIY! Sure enough no more flooding, Still won't run though. It fires right away and dies just as fast then cranks without any additional fireing. Iv'e experimented with adjusting the fuel, both cranking and required fuel - it seems to ...

Re: Was running, now flooding

Thanks Matt! Like your book "Performance fuel injection systems" by the way. I didn't really think I needed it, having run megasquirt for many years but just a single point like "keep the ignition wiring away from the sensor wiring" made it well worth the money!
