Re: Very difficult to start after sitting overnight.

I found the manual's comments of; To begin, set the -40°F cranking pulse width to about 88% of your "upper" req_fuel value, and the 170°F cranking pulse width to about 23% of your req_fuel. Those should get you 'in the ball park' for starting. Were virtually spot on for my engine and...

Down here i'm running one from EFI Hardware. They also do downdraught style TB's too!

Re: Almost dies switching from Park to Drive...

Try adding more fuel, it's almost as if the engine isn't producing as much idle torque to cope with the gearbox once it's engaged in gear. Also once the engine is thoroughly warm, turn up your idle speed to about 800rpm whilst in gear and see where that gets you.

Re: Almost dies switching from Park to Drive...

You could try running more advance in the lower RPM bins to try help the engine recover. I run a mild roller cam in mine and it idles at about 900rpm in gear and about 1200rpm out of gear, I find that the engine loves ignition advance - similar to running the old manifold vacuum advance. Also your i...

Re: Elusive First Start of BBC

Once you get it starting and idling nicely, i'd try moving back to the crank wheel and have MS2 control timing now you have a timing light :D

Congrats!

Re: Elusive First Start of BBC

Which way was it backfiring? Out the exhaust or back up through the intake? Also which cranking trigger setting are you using - trigger rise or calculated? I think it's best you v'fy with a timing light before doing anything, especially with a big motor! I know my 400 (true 10.5CR) was fun to get go...

Re: Elusive First Start of BBC

Is the trigger offset in sync with the balancer? Clip a timing light to #1 plug lead and verify. It'll tell you 2 things, where your offset actually is in relation to the crank trigger wheel and you're actually getting spark. Also feel the injectors to see if they "click" while you're wind...

Re: VR sensor wiring - how do others route it?

Well after 3 hours on Sunday, coupled with a bit of blood, sweat and swearing I managed to get the crank angle sensor wire changes to a belden twin core + shield jobby and so far I cannot find any hint of RFI on the input side of things now. I am going to put a pullup resistor on the output of the c...

Re: VR sensor wiring - how do others route it?

So perhaps I could have been headbutting my head against a brick wall all this time.... I might try knocking the pins out of the DB37 as they are crimped pins instead of solder cups and running the 2 VR wires to the ECU, then ground the shield at the sensor end perhaps? The EB-EL Ford Falcon I got t...

VR sensor wiring - how do others route it?

Hey guys, Just want to gauge a feel for how some of you guys run the wires your VR sensor, whether they be distributor or crank trigger. I'm more curious about V configuration engines as at the moment I have run a V8 with the distributor still in it to throw the sparks around BUT my EFI loom runs un...

Re: Tool to Test IAC Motor

I've often thought this sort of 'debug' test method for the IAC would be invaluable. Maybe it might be worth while asking Al if it's possible to include in any next code release IF there's any room left in memory.

Re: Still Getting Ignition Miss. Running Out Of Ideas.

Woohoo!!!! Awesome news man. I only copied the 10K resistor going to the base of the 2n2222 because that is what was in the sequencer and if Bruce used it that's good enough for me. When I saw how low it triggered the transistor voltage wise I thought it'd need some tweaking, say around 4k7 to start...

Re: Still Getting Ignition Miss. Running Out Of Ideas.

Ahh nice! So the car is really coming along now hey? Wiring up the injectors individually is probably something I should have done too in hindsight but with the sequencer i'd want to run an MSD DIS-4 in wasted spark mode with sequential fuelling - just for the cool factor :yeah!: - and with the diff...

Re: Still Getting Ignition Miss. Running Out Of Ideas.

Scott, I can confirm that I didn't get 1 ignition drop/reset/anything after going for a 1mi drive. I'm about to go put about 50 miles on it now and dont expect it to drop either. I'd recommend you putting in the same mod I did before jumping on the LM1815 boat (extra $$ and more components to worry ...

I should be back on the road this coming week as my timing cover is getting treated at the Loctite porosity/impregnation facility. Once I get a new seal and reset the timing tab i'll have it running in an evening!

Hey Scott, have you tried my mod by chance? Jumping from U7P1 to the base of a 2n2222 transistor? Basically the same way the sequencer is now done. You'll get that 0-5V swing then and put your input capture setting in phase with how the sensor is wired.

Ohwell my timing cover has gone off to Loctite's porosity/impregnation sealing place to get treated. Should have it back in a week or 2 with any luck! Also found an Edelbrock 8810 pump for $100 too, bonus! Will post up soon once i'm running.

Yeah good point, I think If you can probe both IRQ and IGN pin's at the processor and log them when it misses, it will tell you which one is the culprit I guess. The funny thing is though, I had experimented with the MS2/Extra code at one stage and I even had losses of sync using that code too, whic...

A mis-fire on the output side wouldn't show up in the logs as a complete loss of RPM I would have thought.
