Got it started , they F pump gave up

Post by Conrad »

Bolted my set of gpz 1100 Bike TB's to my 1979 ford escort yesterday

Conect all the fuel line tempory and powered up my fuel pump made sure there is no fuel leaks wel everything looked dry regulater show 25 psi

Turned the key car turn bot wont fire , wel found that i disconected my coil's fuse put it back try again ant presto it starts (very routh and some backfiring out of no 4 piston

Started her up a few times and then sudenly she wont start realized my fuel pump is quiet fuse blown put another fuse in pump wont turn

What did i do wrong

I ran the suply from an 10 litre can of fuel via a 5/8 inch hose conected to pump other end in container pump was below fuel level
the suply hose from container to pump looks like an inverted U with each leg about 1.5 feet long
had my fuel filter 0.5 fet after pump then injectors then 3 feet of hose then the return line back into the container

Now i have to find the invoice for the pump and hope they take it back

Pump in Q is a bosch inline # 0 580 254 910

Just took it back to the bosch dealers i bought it from
wil hava an answer in 3 weeks
they want to cut it open see what is the problem
sound like i wont have waranty if sand in it or windings burned(ran dry)
wel i know there was stil fuel in pump when i disconected the hoses so hopefully no sand

Just talked to an mechanic friend of mine he says he wil het me a new pump for +- R200 or about 25$ i wil take it until i can get mu bosch back

what can i use as a pre filter ?
hose 5/8" -> strainer filter -> washer(to stop pump from sucking in strainer) -> fuel pump inlet else
mayby an bigger strainer filter clamshelled between 2 blocks of material with a hose barb @ each side ?
i am going to run a surge tank about 2 litres suplied via a small electric fuel pump with a filter between lowpresure pumo and surge tank
gave my surge tank in for galvanizing wil this be a problem ?

good idea to take old tank out and give it a clean if yes with what ?

got a spare (old) tank whitch i clean then just have to swap the fuel sender over
