I intend using Edis but I think this would apply to most ignition systems. Is it OK to mount the coil on the body of a vehicle or should it be mounted directly onto the motor. I note that most manufacturers mount their coils direct to the motor.

im running a single coil and its bolted to the body.

if your running a coilpack(6 coils) then you will have to mount it to the body.
its just easier than having it on the engine.

Thanks. The reason I asked was that I had some plugs leads made for my Edis 4 and they said in a rather derogatory tone ' awe you're mounting the coil on the body'. I came away thinking about it and realized that all oem stuff has the coil mounted on the motor. I though that having the coil on the body may generate additional radio or magnetic interference.

I think the main reason for engine mounted coils is ease of assembly - you can have the ignition all wired up before you drop the engine into the car. Some factory setups use body mounted coils; RX-7s come to mind.
