Newbie with some 22RE questions

Post by tweaker727 »

I'm actually posting all this for a friend's setup.

I'm looking at getting some advice on tuning his truck,

He bought this thing already wired with a mega squirt.

Mid 80's Toyota truck that originally came with EFI and some one did a hack job converting it to megasquirt. It runs but not very well, We took it out the other day for a trip of wheelin' and any time i get behind him it was like sucking on a fuel pump cause he is running so rich. The thing barely idles and he always manages to kill it upon letting the clutch out.

I have no idea where to start on testing things, or Re-tuning his poor truck.

At the same time, All i have is a newer computer for using mega squirt, it only has USB ports and no DB9 out put, Is there any way to tune it ? or do i need to setup and old computer to configure it ?

PLEASE HELP :D

You can get the MS to talk to a newer laptop by getting a USB to serial adapter. This seems like it may be the big issue:
We took it out the other day for a trip of wheelin' and any time i get behind him it was like sucking on a fuel pump cause he is running so rich.
I'd start by using a wideband O2 sensor to see just how rich it's running, and lean out the VE (fuel) table as needed.
