Always wants to die after revving at idle

Post by gofastant »

1990 8V 1.8L w/ MS2 2.886

This is the last thing I need to take care of before I get my car inspected. It's been off the road since 2004 so this is BIG for me. I've finally got the idle control to where I want it to be using the 2 wire bosch PWM valve. At a 50 degree start up it will immediately fire to 1700 RPM and slowly drop down to 1000 RPM as it gets to temp. But even after Warmup is off and it is up to temp whenever I rev it or drive to the end of the drive-way, as I let off the throttle the RPM's drop to where it dies. Alternator load makes the problem worse. I can't always blip the throttle to keep it awake. It appears to be going rich as it goes below normal idle RPM. Where should I look first? Once I start driving everything is fine but stopping is always a pain.

I'd try bumping up the timing in the spark table in a row just below the idle speed first, see if that stabilizes it. If it doesn't, please post a data log of the engine almost dying after you rev it and a copy of your MSQ, and I'll see if I can offer any more suggestions.
