Starting a New Project

Post by wmahaffey »

I am helping a friend install a MS2 on his '57 Chevy. He is using a 350 small block with port injection and ignition yet to be determined. He would like to use a distributor for the ignition so he can use a regular coil and ignition plug wires.

He has already purchased a complete wiring harness for the car. I would like to use the stock GM ECU box because his wiring harness has the connector plug for that unit. I would like to place the MS hardware in this box.

Questions:

1. What ignition Distributor do we need to use? I do know we need a some kind of out put for TDC.

2. What is the best way to do the Engine Control Unit?

MS2 with 3.57 main board?
MicroSquirt module 2.2 with added ignition driver

Thanks in advance for all help and advice,

Bill

With batch fire, you just need an 8 tooth wheel. And there's really only one type of distributor that will plug directly into a GM harness; that would be a HEI unless for some reason he's bought an LT1 or Vortec harness.

Marc Piccioni has an in-the-case solution for GM TPI and TBI harnesses. You can read about the TPI version here:
