Junkyardin' for a 38-40mm throttle body

Post by Eaallred »

Looking to convert my 62 Willy's CJ5 to Megasquirt with an extra MS1 3.57 I have laying around.

Anyone know of a make/model that uses a single 38-40mm throttle body?

Opening on my cylinder head for the carb is 41.xx millimeters, so I can't really fit anything bigger.

I've looked at motorcycle throttle bodies, which would work great because the single injector located on it, except everything i'm finding is a row of four TB's all connected, with the linkage arm on one side, and the TPS on the other end so I don't think I can even cut the thing apart to salvage a single TB. Unless I can? Not sure. Don't have the money to throw away at an experiment like that., unfortunatly.

Anyway, if anyone knows of any makes/models I should be looking for, that would be great. Bike TB's even better if they have the injector located in them. I'm only pushing 70hp, so a single injector will work fine.

Any and all help appreciated!

Yamaha '03-'04 (38mm) and '05 (40mm) R6 TBs (also '06+ R6S models, 40mm) can easily be broken down and reassembled into a single, twins, or three. These are the ones that look like CV carbs; don't get the '06+ R6V models with the drive-by-wire butterflies - there's no way for a cable or the MS ECU to control them.

There are several of these TB sets on ebay right now for not-bad money. Good luck!

Most welcome. Oh, yeah - the injectors I do believe are rated for 235cc/min @ 43 psig.

Yea, that's me. Finishing up the revamp on my bug before I tackle the CJ. Just looking for all my options beforehand though.

No, i've been working on making my drag car street legal so I can more easily tune it with the laptop in the car. I've been able to 'sneak' my laptop down the track a few times too so it seems to work alright.

Try the 1bbl Ford Tempo/Topaz TBI unit. It'll bolt on in place of many carbs.
