Spark Scatter

Post by lgowin »

I've got an MSII 3.57 running a VR input from a Bosch 60-2 toothed wheel. The engine is an Alfa Romeo 2 liter twinspark running ITBs (38mm Hyabusa). I can get the car to start, but it runs roughly and I have to open the bungs I put in for idle bypass to get it to start. I think that the biggest symptom I need to fix is the jumping timing. It has about a 10 degree swing.

I've got an Oscope and the VR signal looks clean, so I believe that the pots are adjusted correctly. I'm not seeing big variance in my sensors, so I think that my grounds are good.

My MAP seems a bit high, running about 83kPa with the throttle closed. This doesn't seem right either - I would expect a lot more vacuum.

I'm a n00b so I expect I'm missing some basic stuff, but nothing is jumping out at me in the forums. What am I taking for granted that I should reverify?

Regards,

Could be an odd settings issue. Could you post a data log of the engine running, along with your MSQ file? This will shed some light on whether the MS "thinks" the spark timing is steady or has accidentally been set up to make the spark scatter.

Matt,

I reloaded the code to blow away any errant configs. That seems to have sorted out the spark scatter. I don't have my ignition configs fully sorted yet, but I'll keep working through the Megamanual and forum archives.

Thanks,
