ignition change sugestions

Post by motor_bla »

Hello
I just want to make an upgrade on ignition part. It' s a 2.2l four inline 8V Renault engine, using MSII, actually using standard distributor and a bosch coil (used on vw-audi) with direct coil driver .

First option-keep the distributor but change the coil with original Renault one, driven with +5v signal.

Second option-remove distributor and use 2 coils for wasted spark -needs to mount another trigger wheel(60-2 ford type), actually using original fitted 44-2-2 renix style.(or keep the original 44-2-2 and a additional cam signal too)

Questions: -it's ok to use wasted spark only with 60-2 trigger wheel without additional cam signal ?
-does anybody tries to use motorcycle coils for wasted spark?

Wayting for your opinnions, any other ideas are welcome
Thanks in advance

Wasted spark would work fine with a 60-2 crank wheel with no sensor. Motorcycle coils for wasted spark are normally 2-output units; you'd need 4 pieces and 4 drivers.

why do i have to use 4 ?
every coil have 2 spark outputs, so une coil for cyl 1+4 and one coil for cyl 2+3, right?
did i missed something?

Sorry - brain cramp! I saw 8V and read V8...

Yes, 2x bike coils with 2x drivers will work just fine.
