(MS II 3.57 36-1) no trigger to MSD

Post by HomeBlown57 »

I am using the 3.57 board. I have a good vr signal. The tach reads 150 RPM while cranking. The injector LED lights. I can hear the injectors cycling. I have no spark from my MSD 6AL. If I disconnect the MS II from the MSD and take the MSD white to ground, it fires the coil. I have done the .ini mod and have the dwell set to 25.5.

Ign Input capture... Rising edge.
Cranking trigger..... Trigger Rise.
Coil Charge Scheme... Standard Coil Charge
Spark Output... Going Low (Normal)

I have been reading for 2 days. :RTFM: I hate to ask questions that have been asked before. I did find this exact situation from 2005. The final post read "it works now, I had to change some jumpers" he never said what he changed. He never said what he did.

On the Stim (changed 36-1 to standard) I do get a pulse on the IGN LED.

It is still fun. I am not frustrated yet. YET!

Ok I got it running.
I had no ignition driver. I installed a tip120 transistor from Radioshack. I don't recall the jumper configuration. I will post it soon. The tip120 has to be isolated from the heatsink with a mica plate. It took me a while to figure this out.

On my first MS build, I was having a no spark issue. I posted about this problem, but in the process of writing it down and including everything that you have tried it is another way of double checking yourself. I also had the same success you did by figuring it out yourself.

It's normal to use a fitting kit for TO220 style components which includes special washers to insulate the fixing nut and bolt, which are also supplied. Mica plates may be available on their own for where the transistor is held in place by a spring clip.
