Cold start ignition drop out

What all are you doing exactly when you go to vr? I might do that on my other truck but then again i might not. Just gathering ideas and learning at this stage.

I used the wires from the module as per the alternative trigger circuits linked from HEI page.Did you run the vr circuit off of the module or the 2 wires in the distributor?

What I did is I went to RadioShack and got some microphone wire which has two twisted wires and has a foil shield and then a copper braided shield. I connected the one wire to pin 24 and the other ground wire with the shield to pin 2. I then put the pin 24 to the P pin and the pin 2 ground to the N pin. I also found my ground was terrible as the solder broke when I touched it. So I redid the grounds and found the fuel pump was grounded with everything else so I separated that and grounded it to the firewall.
I fired it up and it idled around 1200 with my current IAC settings and no sign of noise. I drove it for about 10 minutes without a single reset all the way up to 5000 RPM.
My problem before using the VR circuit was I didn't have the ground run to the sensor. I assumed it was connected to ground through the distributor but I was wrong. With the two wires connected properly the VR pots are all the way counterclockwise with no sign of any hiccups.
Thanks Silverado for the idea to try VR again.
Also an FYI everything is new from the rotor to the plugs on my TA.
