Cant get megatune and ms2 to connect using usb adapter

When i try on my desktop with just the serial cable than i can get it to connect fine. Now that i got a new laptop i cant get it to connect with the usb adapter. I saw one of matts old posts about using port checker and when i do that it comes back "s". in port checker it calls it (comm3) but the device manager calls it (comm10). im lost

If device manager has it on Comm10, then you should be able to open the Mini-Term from the communications menu and open the port at:
Com10
Baud: 115200

Then type an upper case Q

see if you get a response.

Also, what OS are you on, if you have hyperterminal or some other terminal program, see what you get there.

In the title you say you can't connect with a usb cable, have you been able to connect with any other method or computer?

yes i was able to connect on my desktop with the serial cable

What do the drivers in Device Manager call it?

the device manager calls it prolific usb to serial

Also what cable are you using between the usb cable and the MS? Any null modem components?

Im using the db9 from diy. when i tried to download the driver my internet just starts flipping out opening like 50 windows

sucked it up and just bought a new cable (the diy one) plugged in aint had an issue yet so far so good out the box
