quad coil not wasted spark on 4 cylinder
Re: quad coil not wasted spark on 4 cylinder
The beauty of wasted spark is it only needs a crank trigger. Individual sparks need a signal from the cam - as a dissy does. But the cam timing isn't precisely linked to the crank - gears or a chain etc always have some 'play' Of course with clever electronics you can take the actual timing from the crank and use the cam one just to make sure it goes to the correct cylinder.ctchme wrote:Hey guys, am busy investigating ignition system's for my 84 exa, and was wondering if I was to use to quad spark ignition driver, that i could simply run single spark plug leads from each cylinder to each coil and have ms2 control the spark?

Re:
Nothing about the crank knows which cylinder is on the firing stroke. Only the cam and valve gear does.ctchme wrote:thats a very good point, it is on the cards to go a wasted spark setup, would be interesting to find out how difficult it would be to get it set so i can run individual spark without a cam sensor, maybe 4 trigger's on a trigger wheel or something similar
