Briggs 10hp -Hall Effect ignition trigger

Post by beaumontj »

I'm working on a project involving converting a 10hp single cylinder briggs & stratton to electronic injection & ignition. We've had the engine up and running with megasquirt controlling only the njection, up from 9.5hp to 12hp.

I've got a hall sensor that I'm not sure will work properly. The sensor read just under supplied voltage when no near the magnet, ie 5V for 330deg of rotation. The voltage drops to ~20mV when close to the magnet, 30deg of crank rotation. The falling edge is about 45deg BTDC and rising again at ~10deg BTDC. Will this sensor work or do I need a sensor that goes from low to high? Also if it will work any advice whether to trigger off the rising or falling edge?

The sensor is a Hamlin 55110 http://www.hamlin.com/product-detail.cfm?productid=78

I've seen a posting regarding using a flywheel magnet but lacking final results viewtopic.php?f=38&t=13517&p=85686&hili ... ion#p85686

Thanks for any help, John

For fuel only, that ought to work fine.

newbe here.
question on the injection doing
Are you injecting for every other spark event?
how do you tell you are injecting on the intake if you are using the flywheel sensor?
I can't get to the thread last mentioned in your post (been dropped) do you know what they tried to do?

I'm trying a reed switch for the timing on a MS2 V3 board and I can get an injection event every other ingnition, but don't know if the injection is on the intake stroke vs. the power stroke.
I am searching for information on another thread by H2active.

Thanks for your time

You can set an injector timing delay in Tunerstudio.
