Who do I tell about errors in the megamanual?

Post by GregZ »

Howdy,

I am long time reader with a Mercedes 560SL conversion. I love this product!

In the EDIS part of the megamanual:
http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/EDIS.htm
I believe there is an error that should be corrected. The pictures that show EDIS-4 and EDIS-8 wiring are I believe wrong.
The problem is that in the coil packs, if the pins are numbered from where the key is, then the pin at the key (pin-1) is coil-B and not coil-A. Thus for EDIS-8 pin-8 should be connected to coil pin-3 EDIS pin-9 should be connected to coil pin-1 ; pin-11 should be connected to pin-3 of the other coil pack and pin-12 should be connected to pin-1 of the other coil pack. I can send pictures of the coil packs where it is obvious that pin-3 of the coil pack is indeed driving the spark plug numbered-1.

Please forward this request to the maintainer of that part of the manual and let me know.

Best wishes,

Greg

Greg,

That's certainly possible, though a lot of people have used these instructions successfully over the years and I would be surprised if none of them had been tripped up by this. It's also possible that the text is similarly changed, and these cancel each other out.

It's also possible that not all EDIS systems are the same for all years.

So I am reluctant to change any of this unless:
- we have some authoritative evidence, such as a number of factory services manuals from different engines, models and years (if people could post scans of the relevant info, that would help - we only want OEM service manual info - not Haynes or Chilton, etc.), and/or
- we have a consensus of many EDIS uses that agree that the changes to the manual ought to be made.

Any such users can post in this thread - I will follow it closely.

Thanks Lance for looking at this. Actually, as it is posted it does work, except the numbering on the coil itself does not make sense. I am attaching two pictures. On the first picture you can clearly see the numbering printed . The left side is one, the right side is two. On the second picture you can see that the key indeed is on the right side. So, if I hook up the coil according to the posted image I will have to connect the spark plug of the first cylinder to the right side not to the left side, contradicting the numbering on the coil. This may be small of an issue (as by swapping the two ignition wires you can make it work) but it is that way.

I sort of pointed this out some time ago - but if you follow the written instructions in the manual for which plug lead is which it is fine. If you have coils with the plug numbers on them, they will be wrong. I did my own schematic with them the right way round.
