Injectors clicking when MS is plugged in

Post by bockscar »

Hello, quick question -

I've wired my sensors according to the documentation I have (MS1, which I have) and all of the sensors appear to work when tested, however the injectors make an auditable 'click' when I plug the DB-37 connector into the MS1 and apply power to it. I am not cranking it at this point, I am only testing it.

This is normal? Doesn't the clicking in the injectors mean they are opening?

b,

That is likely the "prime pulse". Search for 'prime' on this page: http://www.megamanual.com/v22manual/mtune.htm#howto

Very interesting, so the Prime Pulse is meant to purge any 'air' from the injectors when the key is turned to the start position? We went ahead and tested the voltage on the EV1 connector and both sides show 12v. From what I understand, the MS brain grounds one pin on the connector, completing the circuit and causing the injector to open and squirt fuel into the combustion chamber. Is this correct?

So in other words, I shouldn't worry about the initial clicking?

bockscar,

Right. As long as it only happens once on powering your MegaSquirt controller up, things are working as they should. Then they shouldn't click again until you get a tach signal (engine is turning over) or you cycle the power to MegaSquirt.
