Idling problem

Post by skyy406 »

Hey all,

I have to hold the throttle open to keep the car running until it warms up a bit. The engine idles around 1000-1200 and bounces up and down a bit.

When I try and rev the engine it sputters then revs, but if I hit the throttle 100% it bogs down and doesnt really do much.

What should I be looking for to correct this?

Also when the engine is warmed up it idles much better and I dont have to hold the throttle at all. I can shut it off and turn it back on over and over and it levels out pretty well.

sky406,

Without knowing what code or processor you are using, it's hard to say much.

However, it sounds like you may need to adjust your warm-up enrichments. The you need to adjust the idle bins (rpm, and MAP) of the VE table. You will probably have to go back and forth several times to get it right, but this doesn't take long once you understand what you are trying to do. There is much more here: http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/tune.htm#howto

MSII v3.0

Basically I had a friend who is a tuner for Eclipses take a screen shot of a tune he made for this engine in the stock car. I just loaded in the afr and ign stuff and it fired right up.

I haven't really messed with the warm up enrichment's. I'll read that page you posted and then see what I can do.

I attached the picture for you to see what I did.

Finally got around to working on the warm-up enrichment's.

I had to increase them a whole lot from the defaults to get the car to idle.

Has a steady idle of around 800.

Thanks for the heads up about warm-up enrichment's.

Now I just have to figure out why my AFR's are whacked out and why my rear bank of cylinders aren't all firing :(
