Ford 4.9l I6 MS2 help needed

Post by Ford300fan »

I recently purchased an MS2v3.57 ecu for my 1990 F150. I need a good starting point for my tune, was wondering if anyone else has a Megasquirted Ford 4.9l. The engine is bone stock, just in there till I get my 351w built...I have a Holley 650 cfm 4bbl tbi, with 65pph injectors, and clifford 4bbl intake that I will use on the 4.9l. The truck has a 4.11:1 rear end ratio and 31" tires with a C6 tranny. When I do the engine swap I will go with a little higher stall converter, the one I have sucks. Will be in the range of 2000-2500 stall. Basically I wanted to get the hang of tuning this thing, then when the time comes, just swap the engine, re-tune the ecu and not have to worry about a whole fuel system swap. The truck is currently MPFI, I personally prefer the look of the tbi setups, and they drive more like a well-tuned carbureted vehicle, which I like. I'm not sure which code to go with for the MS2 either, need a little input there too. I know that the tbi is probably overkill for this 4.9l, but it's about perfect size for the 351w. This truck is my daily driver, so I also need to know if these Megasquirt ecu's are reliable, don't want to find myself stranded in the cold this winter because it malfunctioned. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

We haven't seen too many of these break - the only common failure point used to be VB921 ignition outputs, and that's gone away since we switched to the BIP373 transistor. If you are running standard B&G code (MS2/Extra has a separate support forum at MSExtra.com), see these links for how to set the ECU up for your engine.
