Can a hall sensor (like this one) be used in an oiled environment?
On my old V8, I've made the switch to an electric fuel pump. If I used the old fuel pump block off plate as a mount point for the hall sensor, and replaced the eccentric with a toothed wheel of some sort then I would have a nice cam position sensor. Ultimately, I could almost get rid of the dizzy all together. I just need the bottom end of it to run the oil pump.

Isn't the pump lobe part of the cam - so near impossible to change for a gear? Other thing is a cam driven sensor is not going to be so accurate as a crank driven one - due to the drive between the two.
The easiest way is to fit a trigger wheel and sensor to the crank pulley and go wasted spark - either EDIS or driven by extra driver transistors in MS. No dizzy needed - apart from a stub to drive the oil pump.

It will stand up to oil as long as you don't exceed its maximum temperature.

On my engine the eccentric is a separate piece which is held on by the cam gear bolt. Pulling it off, and installing a toothed wheel should be trivial The only difficult part might getting the alignment with the hall sensor through the block off plate to work out.
This isn't essential for my current setup (MS2 PCB3 running EDIS), but I've been toying with the idea of moving to MS3. Then I could go coil on plug with no wasted spark.
Probably no real benefit, but if I can, I will.
